The Capitol Visitor Center is a jurisdiction of the Architect of the Capitol legislative branch agency. The candidate creates and implements professional development programs for educators, develops and implements distance learning programs and products and assists in the Capitol Visitor Center's delivery of onsite programs for student and general public audiences. The candidate provides leadership of a team to deliver educational programming and must have flexibility in work schedule, including work on weekends, evenings and holidays.

The person in this position will:

• Perform administrative and technical supervisory functions for a collective staff of 2 or more employees.  Perform human resource management functions including establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff members. 
• Develop and implement training program for volunteers in collaboration with Volunteer Coordinator. Manage a Teacher Advisory Group, to include holding regular sessions, recruiting new members, determining new topics for discussion, developing agendas and performing all prepatatory work.   
• Manage Teacher Workshops through development and implementation of goals, projects, and programs of the Exhibits and Education Division.   
• Develop, research, plan and write content for a Teacher Academy program in conjunction with area partners. 
• Develop, manage and implement a remote access on-line learning program. Design and deliver programs for schools and other groups. Provide operational liaison with school groups for student programs. Schedule school and public groups, staff and volunteers for booked programs.
• Evaluate the overall school group experience at the CVC. Collaborate with Training Division and Visitor Services Division to develop methods for improving school group experience.
• Develop content for website, signs, handouts, brochures and other products pertaining to public programs and educational products of the Capitol Visitor Center.

The Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends.

The individual selected for this position will:

Leader Duties:

Serves as working leader of three (3) or more employees in receiving, storing and delivering a diverse range of construction products and other materials.

Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).

Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Ensures that each employee has a full workload.

Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, quality and deadlines.

Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).

Materials Handler Duties:

Independently determines loading and unloading sequences to maximize space utilization. Moves construction materials from dock to bin and from storage to shipping.

Drives to deliver materials to various locations on capitol hill complex.

Verifies receipt of documents and indicates the quality and quantity of items received. Places inventory stickers on material, updates inventory records and maintains an accurate inventory of on-hand and issued stock.

Operates hand truck, pallet jacks, dollies and other material handling equipment to deliver stock to storage areas, warehouse facilities or job sites. Operates a fork-lift truck with a load capacity of less than 10,000 pounds and a height capacity of 168 inches. Controls stock movement, being careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials.

Delivers & sets up tables, chairs, podiums, easels, trash trucks, trash cans, partitions, risers & ice.

Provides support when needed to Day Labor & Custodians on moves and/or assignments.

Setting up & breaking down of committee rooms based on the needs of the clients.

Ensure rooms are set to client specifications in a timely manner, set-ups and/or add-ons are address in a timely manner, often in the spur of the moment within given timeframe.

Responsible for cleanings & vacuuming rooms after add-ons are conducted, as well as breaking down to set area for the next event.

Performs other duties as assigned.
