This client has various live and upcoming residential sites throughout Sussex, ranging from 6 units to over 100.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and conclude project/phase specific consultant appointment documents including the scope of works/schedule of services.
• Deliver trade design packages on time and accurately.
• Monitor and report current position against agreed design programme.
• Organise and control the design development of the project in accordance with the ER's, specification and the construction programme.
• Review and comment on the design and deal with all obstacles efficiently and appropriately.
• Control the design development and implement policies and objectives effectively as advised by the Head of Design.
• Ensure that the design team are working in accordance with the companies tender control document assumptions.
• Maximise profit by keeping all costs under control and exploring value engineering options.
• Actively review and critique drawing information during design development.
• Ensure smooth transition from the pre-planning design team into the detailed design development.
• Actively take part in regular design team and site meetings to progress site delivery.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE (including qualifications):

• Degree qualified in Construction Management/Architectural Technology or a similar industry-related qualification, or equivalent industry experience
• Likely to be from a contractor background, but would consider developer or private practice.
• Recent experience of working on new build residential schemes over £5M in value incorporating both residential and affordable housing.
• Must be self-motivated, proactive and be able to demonstrate ability to co-ordinate and lead the design process unaided.

Design Manager - South East London

A Design Manager is required to oversee design packages on a large residential remediation projects across London. The schemes are valued at up to a maximum of £20m in total and mainly consist of cladding replacement. The successful candidate will have experience of working on new build / refurbishment projects with at least two references to support this.

Reporting directly to a Senior Design Manager any potential candidates are welcomed from either a construction, engineering or architectural background. This is a head office based role with occasional site visits also required.

Applicants must have experience of working on projects of at least £5m with leading residential Developers, Architectural Practices or Consultancies with supporting references. They must also live within a commutable distance of Central / West London.

This is an exceptional opportunity to assist in the running of a large water treatment site where you will be given the chance to coordinate all design works and lead from the front.

Role Overview:

• Spearheading the pre-construction phase design processes, acting as a liaison between the client, design team, bid team, and operations team
• Implementing collaborative frameworks to facilitate thorough scrutiny and refinement of designs, thereby mitigating risks effectively

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience completing £50million+ packages for a main contractor
• In-depth understanding of design management across various contract types, with a keen eagerness to tackle new challenges
• Proficiency in overseeing all aspects of the technical design process for major projects, from bid and pre-construction phases to project completion
• Infrastructure experience
• Water treatment experience (highly desirable)
