An opportunity has arisen for an Administrator to support our internationally leading Respiratory Research laboratory at the University of Dundee. The post holder will work under the supervision of Prof James Chalmers, to provide administrative support for the respiratory research group and other research-related administrative activities within the School of Medicine, based at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

The respiratory research group consists of around 20 full time staff and is led by Professor James Chalmers. The respiratory research group conducts research into important respiratory conditions such as bronchiectasis, COPD, pneumonia and COVID-19. The team is highly productive and successful and has a track record of high impact publications and large scale grant funding from Government, Charity and Industry sources.

Supporting the respiratory research team your role will involve administrative duties associated with the management of research studies. This requires regular liaison with members of the laboratory and research teams involved in research studies as well as working closely with project managers and the head of department for the respiratory research laboratory. A high level of organisation, accuracy and attention to detail is required within this role.

The successful candidate will play a key role supporting a friendly, dynamic and successful research team.

Location:

The post holder will be based within the Division of Molecular and Clinical Medicine within the School of Medicine on the Ninewells Campus. The respiratory research team occupies a large laboratory and clinical research space located on level 5 of the hospital in the laboratory block.

Principal duties:

The role

We are looking for a Machine Operator to join our production team. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our wrapping machinery, contributing to the quality of our products while minimising production disruptions. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our Total Productive Maintenance initiative, aimed at maximising production efficiency

Key accountabilities

• Operating high speed wrapping machines and checkweighers.
• Checking codes and completion of daily production documentation.
• Maintenance of hygiene and housekeeping standards and ‘clean as you go’ procedures.
• Maintenance of quality standards procedures.
• Maintenance of Health and Safety standards

Skills & experience

• Experience in operating and maintaining industrial machinery, preferably wrapping machines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
• Ability to follow hygiene and safety protocols rigorously.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to support and train new team members.
• Familiarity with TPM practices and a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.

The role

This role encompasses the manufacture of biscuits and includes mixing of raw materials, baking and 2nd process operations including chocolate enrobing

Key accountabilities

• Check programme/oven profile and relevant recipe sheets
• Ensure relevant programme is entered into the computerised bulk feed system
• To refill hoppers as required and prepare and add pre-mix batches
• Before downloading recipe, check all guards are fitted correctly and ingredient hoppers are assembled and ready for use
• Check webs and tracking, rectifying and reporting any faults
• Check all guards are fitted correctly
• Set up, operate and control the rotary moulder and baking oven, make adjustments as required in order to maintain standards/specifications and report any faults
• Set up, operate and control the cream mixing equipment and creaming machine, including all associated handling and use of ingredients and make adjustments as required in order to maintain standards/specifications and report any faults
• Set up, operate and control the chocolate enrober and chocolate cooler, make adjustments as required in order to maintain standards/specifications and report any faults
• Set up and maintain chocolate supply to meet demand within the factory
• Regularly monitor product for any sign of deviation from standards/specification
• To ensure colour standards and control sheets are checked/recorded and are correct
• To keep working area clean and tidy at all times and keep plant equipment clean

Skills & experience

• Applicants must be on or over the age of 18
• Ability to evidence full right to work within the UK(student applicants must, be able to demonstrate this, as paid induction requires full 40 hours induction training)
• Numerate, literate(written and oral communication) and the ability to work in a fast-paced people focused, team and or individual environments.
• Understand and be comfortable working within a food manufacturing environment where hygiene principles are exceptionally important. (Training provided)

About Us:

At Serco, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of roadworthiness for our commercial vehicle fleet. We are currently seeking a skilled Workshop Mechanic to join our small team in Derbyshire Dales. This role involves repairing, maintaining, and inspecting all Serco commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities, in accordance with the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency “Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness”.


Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles.
- Diagnose and repair vehicle faults, using diagnostic equipment to diagnose complex faults.
- In consultation with the Workshop Supervisor and Transport Compliance Manager, ensure all safety inspections are completed on time, including all vehicle statutory obligations.
- Test drive vehicles post-repair to confirm roadworthiness.
- Maintain and service all workshop equipment.
- Accurately document all inspections and repairs, both manually and electronically.
- Report all vehicle defects and driver-related damages to contract management staff.
- Work catch-up Saturdays (Only a Saturday following a Bank Holiday)



Qualifications and Experience Required:

- Full industry-recognized qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair).
- Category C Driving Licence is desirable.
- Personal Tool Kit.
- Experience maintaining large fleets.
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
- Resilient, self-aware, and capable of handling challenges.
