To take shared responsibility for non-invasive cardiac investigations to ensure all the investigation are performed to the highest standards possible with full patient safety and to provide expert advice on findings. To liaise with cardiology doctors as and when necessary.
To take responsibility of performing echocardiogram on in and out patients and generate their own reports to BSE standards. Ensuring service is supported by the appropriate guidelines, protocols and clinic capacity. To deputise for the head of department in his absence. To participate in the training and development of junior staff within the department along with the remit to train appropriate others as required by the service. The post holder will be required to participate in other non-invasive areas of cardiac investigations, exercise-tolerance testing, Holter monitoring and analysis and tilt-testing.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced Cardiac Physiologist specialised in echocardiography to join our friendly team. The Department provides a wide range of diagnostic and invasive cardiac investigations. Also provide pacemaker implantation and follow-up clinics. Applicant should hold BSc in Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent and also have been accredited in BSE/EACVI Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography. The department is currently awarding 10% recruitment and retention (R&R) to all fully BSE accredited staff.
Only fully accredited applicants in adult echocardiography will be considered for this post
This post has been designed to help with the expansion of the Echo department with the introduction of the new stress echo service, along with the plans to start a physiologist led valve clinic with the final aim being BSE Departmental Accredited.
The department is planning towards 7 day working, the successful applicant would expected to participate in this.

1 To undertake and carry out competently a full range of non-invasive investigations:
Trans-Thoracic Echocardiography - To perform study and provide clinical reports to aid diagnosis or any on-going treatment. To make clinical decisions as to when to expedite clinic follow-up as required. Supervision of junior staff members. To also assist the physician in Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiography and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography with regard to obtaining optimal images and measurements during the procedure. To be responsible for relevant equipment and drugs used in procedure.
• Tilt testing - To be aware of dangerous arrhythmia associated with test. To be able to respond correctly to any such arrhythmia. To be able to explain test and to reassure patient. To accurately monitor haemodynamic measurements during test. Supervision of junior staff members.
• Exercise Tolerance Testing (technician led) - to be aware of contraindications for exercise testing. To be able to recognise dangerous arrhythmia associated with test. Be able to provide first line resuscitation and defibrillation while awaiting crash team. Know when to stop test either due to patient symptoms or using information derived from on-screen ECG recordings.
• 24 hour tape analysis - Analyse and provide a clinical report to aid diagnosis, to be aware of significant arrhythmia and make clinical decisions on referrals. To know when to expedite reports to cardiologist, supervision and advice for junior staff members.
• Blood pressure monitoring - to provide clinical information with regard to patients ambulatory blood pressure to aid diagnosis or on-going treatment.
• To maintain stock levels within department.
• Work in collaboration with the nominated lead Cardiologist.
