Children’s services in North Lanarkshire is highly aspirational with a focus on medium and long term outcomes. We are using a range of strategically-aligned models and approaches to improve services through relationships.
Often young people in conflict with the law are also at risk of harm in the community (extra familial harm). We are therefore aligning our approach to extra familial harm and Contextual Safeguarding, with our improvement plan following on from our review of youth justice services.
Strategically, the post holder will have a lead role in the implementation of the Contextual Safeguarding approach and supporting social work and other partners to continue the culture and practice changes required to address harm to young people in the community. They also work collaboratively with locality teams, our intensive services and partners to keep our commitments to The Promise to reduce the criminalisation of care experienced young people.
Operationally, they will have responsibility for supervising support workers working with young people in conflict with the law and developing and overseeing a new peer mentoring service funded by The Corra Foundation to help us in our ambitions to keep the Promise. These services will work creatively across youth justice and the contextual safeguarding approach and in close collaboration with intensive services.

We need managers who can lead, develop and motivate staff, have an excellent track record and significant post qualifying experience. You should also be highly motivated and an inspirational social work practitioner, passionate and committed to driving forward change, whilst promoting innovation in a culture where people feel supported to do their jobs.
