You and your role

As a member of the Cross Boundary Team's leadership team, you will be accountable for the application development, coordination and leadership of a large technical team (around 100 resources), creating and maintaining products and services for DWP.

Using your deep technical knowledge, you will provide advice and guidance across internal and external relationships reconciling priorities, agreeing on approach and contextualising proposals submitted for approval. You will make balanced recommendations to mitigate problems resultative of change in Departmental policy.

You will work closely with the delivery team to ensure alignment to the wider DWP technical strategy and achieve mutually acceptable solutions across both internal and external interests.

You will have the expertise to contribute to critical business discussions to inform strategy across areas such as software development, engineering, DevOps and solution architecture.

Due to the size and location of the team, there will be an element of travel required to all hub locations, which will contribute to your hybrid working commitment.

The service is delivered through four sites: St James University Hospital (SJUH), Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), Wharfdale General Hospital and Seacroft Hospital. This is a non-training post, however, it allows the post holder, including applicants who already hold CCT, to gain experience that will help to secure future posts. Almost all the sub-specialities in Obstetrics and Gynaecology are provided for at our centre. As a Maternal Medicine Centre our service leads on the provision of specialist care to high-risk women across Yorkshire and Humber through a large selection of MDT clinics (diabetes, endocrinology, cardiology, haematology, rheumatology, renal, gastro-intestinal and maternal medicine clinics). The successful candidate will be given dedicated sessions to work in these clinics, as well as have an opportunity to be involved in local and regional MDT meetings, QI projects and service development. We're looking for skills, knowledge and experience of:

• Expert knowledge and extensive experience of modern JavaScript/Node.JS technologies, frameworks and design principles. Capable of leading the production of software solutions of the highest quality.
• Extensive experience of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) practices and techniques.
• Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures.
• Expert knowledge and extensive experience of developing on cloud-based environments like AWS and Azure.
• Knowledge and experience of SQL and NoSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL and MongoDB.
• Experience and the skills required to build up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment.
• Experience of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, communicating with stakeholders, driving delivery, ensuring standards, ways of working and building supportive and collaborative culture.

Pay: We'll pay you from £52,412 to £78,517.

The New Hospital Programme (NHP) Finance Directorate supports and enables the delivery of NHP’s strategic objectives by ensuring that NHP’s finances are managed appropriately in the short, medium and long-term, ensuring there are robust controls in place to manage risk, proactive stakeholder engagement and effective financial management (including ownership of workstream budgets and agreeing capital envelopes).​

This is an exciting opportunity to join the New Hospital Programme Finance Strategy & Operations team. We are a rapidly growing and supportive team looking for a high performing, adaptable finance professional who can establish themselves quickly.

The postholder will be working closely with the Finance Business Partnering team and other workstreams within the programme across NHS England and the Department of Health & Social Care

As a Senior Accountant you will work as part of the Finance Operations team to deliver an exceptional service to senior leaders across the Programme ensuring that NHP lives within its annual budget and delivers value for money. You will:

Provide specialist financial support & guidance to Directors in managing their delegated budgets and improve financial competence across NHP through learning activities and proactive engagement

Present, interpret, and explain complex and technical financial information and concepts in a clear and concise format, tailoring for finance and non-finance audiences

Completion of the Month end management accounts process, including related analysis and transactions.

For your portfolios, you will lead the Directorate on business planning exercises ensuring resource requirements align to the programme’s strategy and milestones

Actively participate in the development of the Finance Operations team in supporting the delivery of NHP’s strategic objectives by ensuring that NHP’s finances are managed appropriately in the short and medium term with robust controls in place to discharge responsibilities and ensure compliance with Managing Public Money and other relevant standards and guidance.

Deputise for the Financial Controller as required, including at formal governance meetings
