School of Geography and Environmental Science and School of Social Sciences

We are delighted to welcome applications for a research post in the area of population forecasting and demographic modelling as part of the FuturePop project, funded by the Wellcome Trust. The new funding is a collaborative project between the University of Southampton and the University of Bristol.

The project is led by Dr Laurence Hawker and Prof. Andy Tatem and aims to produce high spatial resolution (100m grid cell) global age/sex-structured population estimates for multiple socio-economic scenarios. This project extends previous work conducted by the WorldPop and University of Bristol groups by incorporating spatially varying patterns between covariates and population size, as well as by quantifying uncertainty around estimates.

This post sits within a FuturePop work package focused on the production of subnational population projections by administrative geography. Estimates at high spatial resolution are produced by disaggregation of such estimates and projections, and thus the post forms a key part of the workflow in this area. In particular, the post-holder will develop probabilistic methodology to produce estimates and projections of the global population by subnational areas.

The work package is led by Dr Jason Hilton, Dr Laurence Hawker and Prof. Andy Tatem, and the research position will be based in the Department of Social Statistics and Demography, but the post holder will also need to develop strong working relationships with colleagues in the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences and at the University of Bristol.

To be successful in this role you will have, or will be close to completing, a PhD (or have equivalent professional qualifications and experience) with a strong statistical or mathematical component, such as in statistics, demography, economics, geography, or mathematics. Essential attributes for the role are: experience in statistical modelling; proficiency in the use of R, Python or other equivalent programming language; the ability to plan and organise work independently and as part of a team; and the ability to write research presentations and papers. Additionally, knowledge of demographic projection methods, knowledge of Bayesian statistical methods, and/or experience of working with geospatial data would be an advantage.

The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This comprises all activity conducted by MOD Shipping (includes but is not limited to warships, submarines, landing craft and boats across defence), in the Defence Ports and at Defence Harbour Facilities and in Defence Diving, both Military and Commercially contracted diving, in support of Defence activities. As a Senior Support Worker, you will be working as part of the care team, recognise and facilitate the daily needs of residents, conduct formal supervisions and appraisals, as well as, contributing to care planning and coaching support workers. With an emphasis on high quality, the purpose of the role is to maintain the personal care needs of residents, respecting the dignity of the individual and promoting independence.

Your new role

This is a 12m FTC for a Senior HR / People Advisor to cover maternity leave, reporting to the Head of HR. Due to timescales, the successful applicant must be available within 2 weeks.

The role of Senior HR Advisor is to support the business with advice and guidance, processing all documentation and correspondence relating to employee lifecycle matters.

Providing expert HR and employment law advice, coaching and mentoring colleagues and line managers; improving managers' confidence to deal with day to day first line HR queries.

Role summary:

• Strong experience managing a variety of ER casework
• Experience of change management, including restructuring and redundancy
• Ability to work closely with senior managers and build effective working relationships
• Conflict resolution skills
• Ability to work self-sufficiently in a role with a great degree of autonomy.

This role is office-based in Southampton due to the industry, but may offer 1 day WFH / week. Working hours are 37.5 / week with flexibility on start and finish times too.

What you'll need to succeed

This opportunity will suit a competent, organised HR / People professional with experience in a similar role who is CIPD qualified (Level 3 minimum) with current knowledge of employment law including recent / upcoming changes.

The Role:

We have 2 available roles and are seeking a Course Leader for both the BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and the Postgraduate (PG) Fashion Marketing courses. These roles are ideal for an experienced academic or industry specialist with a background in the UK and/or global fashion industry, and specific expertise in Fashion Marketing, particularly in visual brand communication, fashion criticism, circular fashion and contemporary issues in the sector.

As a Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to both our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, playing a key role in strengthening the team and supporting students at all levels. This will include teaching a range of modules within the fashion marketing subject area, providing support and guidance to students, and actively contributing to curriculum development.

You should hold a relevant degree in a related field, ideally coupled with postgraduate qualifications or a willingness to pursue further education through research and professional development. A qualification in the Higher Education sector would be advantageous.

We are looking for a candidate with a comprehensive understanding of Fashion Marketing, alongside knowledge of current professional practices within the fashion and associated industries, and the ability to communicate this effectively to students.
