The Opportunity
As a Senior Legal Counsel reporting to the Head of Legal, Nuclear Operations and Decommissioning, you will be at the forefront of transforming the nuclear energy landscape.
This strategic role offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to EDF Energy's vision of achieving Net Zero. Dive into strategic projects, from overseeing construction contracts to collaborating on commercial negotiations.
Lead initiatives in intellectual property rights, organisational governance, and compliance, making a lasting impact on the industry.
Work closely with Business Partners, understanding objectives, and driving legal requirements for maximum efficiency and risk mitigation.
Provide timely, risk-informed, and commercially relevant legal advice across a spectrum of matters, including key contracts, projects, and regulatory issues. Your role involves proactive dispute management, legislative awareness, and collaboration with external law firms.

What you’ll be doing:
Joining the Nuclear part of the Generation Legal team, you will lead the charge in steering the business through significant legal matters, including:
- Construction: Negotiating and supporting the management of contracts for new facilities' construction and nuclear facilities' deconstruction, including dispute resolution.
- Commercial: Supporting the business in commercial contract negotiations for both operations and decommissioning, realising value and synergies across the supply chain.
- Projects: Leading strategic projects, including M&A activities, corporate reorganizations, and collaboration opportunities with government bodies.
- Property: Negotiating and supporting the management of lease arrangements, licenses, and freehold sales to facilitate ongoing operations.
- Intellectual Property Rights: Understanding, overseeing, and advising on complex IPR rights across different technologies.
- Organisational Governance: Supporting the operation of various group companies and providing company secretarial assistance to the Boards.
- Compliance: Assisting the business in understanding regulatory compliance obligations, including GDPR, export controls, health & safety, environment, and nuclear licensing.
What We’re looking for:
We seek a dynamic legal professional with a proven track record. As a qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales, your expertise spans commercial, contractual, and regulatory law.
Your industry knowledge and commercial acumen will be pivotal in navigating complex legal landscapes. Effective communication is your forte, enabling you to convey intricate legal concepts to diverse audiences. Under pressure, you thrive, managing multiple matters with precision.
Independence is key, as you plan and execute strategies, providing expert advice to the team. Your proactive, business-focused mindset anticipates risks and ensures a preventive approach.
A positive, self-starting individual, you are willing to proactively manage a variety of complex legal issues. Additionally, you promote a positive team dynamic by supporting Legal Counsel and sharing best practices.
