The project aims to: (1) Explore and validate new approaches to target LRRK2; (2) Perform systematic mechanistic, structural and safety analyses to benchmark new LRRK2 modifiers that emerge from this effort and (3) identify clinically relevant biomarkers for LRRK2-driven Parkinson's disease that will facilitate the selection of patients who respond to LRRK2 inhibitor therapy. We aim to galvanise research and accelerate the development of Parkinson's disease therapeutics. The appointed post holders will be based within the laboratories of Dario Alessi, Esther Sammler and Paul Davies within the University of Dundee's MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU, http://www.ppu.mrc.ac.uk/).

The successful applicant will have previous knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

1. Mechanistic cell biology employing a multidisciplinary approach including molecular, biochemical, physiological, mass spectrometry, pharmacological and genetic methodologies.

3. Protein purification.


4. Structural biology.


5. Computational and AI modelling for hit discovery and optimisation.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a senior research technician to support the newly set up child health research/gut microbiome laboratory at the University of Dundee. This group will be exploring the role of the gut microbiome in various human diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease, whilst also exploring the utility of molecular microbiology techniques within core paediatric practice.

You will be expected to provide high quality technical assistance to Dr Richard Hansen and the other members of the research team. The postholder will be expected to take on a senior position within the research group, supporting the work of other colleagues. Core tasks will include sample collection and processing, bacterial culture from gut-derived samples, and molecular microbiology techniques/set-up for next-generation sequencing including liaison with sequencing partners.

You will support the principal investigator, clinical fellows and PhD students as part of a multidisciplinary team, performing laboratory research to a high standard, organising study data and supervising undergraduates. You will work collaboratively with team members to develop and validate protocols for sample collection and support curation of samples in long-term storage whilst supporting recruitment and sample collection to newly set-up clinical studies. Your new role :

To be successful, youshould have a methodical approach and interpersonal skills. You will be greatat analysing costs but also know how to read people and tailor negotiationstrategies to ensure the best possible outcome.

Responsibilities

• Valuation of project works in line with Method of Measurement, primarily NEC and SSM7.
• Reviewing/validating tender cost plans and take offs.
• Liaising with Site Managers, Clients, Contractors, and Subcontractors, throughout projects to ensure best commercial result whilst maintaining relationships.
• Preparing month end reports for Commercial Manager.
• Tracking cost plans and programme delivery.
• Assisting in material procurement and specification compliance.
• Identifying and documenting any changes in design and updating budgets.
• Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
• Traveling from the office to various sites as required.
• Analyse subcontractor quotes, place orders and evaluate through project.
• Record productivity, including incentivisation schemes.
• Recognise contractual responsibilities.
• Ensuring your site teams deliver the commercial strategy.

What you'll need to succeed :

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

• Minimum HND in Quantity Surveying, engineering, management, or similar.
• An understanding of Causeway Estimating Systems is advantageous.
• Working well within a Team.
• Sound knowledge of Excel.
• Understanding of Microsoft Project advantageous.
• Excellent negotiating and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to organise, plan, and strategize.
• Valid driver's license.
• Great networking abilities.
