This Nursing Assistant position is located within the VA Community Living Center at the St Cloud VA Medical Center in St Cloud, MN, where Veterans receive nursing home level care including help with activities of daily living as well as skilled nursing and medical care. The Nursing Assistant delivers safe, basic physical and emotional care to residents with simple to complex needs while developing technical skills under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides nursing care to residents according to established facility procedures adhering to all VA and nursing policies, procedures, standards, and protocol.
- Elimination - assist residents with bowel and bladder elimination as indicated, collects specimens as ordered, measures and records output as indicated, manages urinary drainage devices as directed per facility policy, performs bladder scans per facility policy.
- Wound Care - observe, maintain, and promote skin integrity by following evidence-based practice guidelines, facility policies, procedures, and protocols. Completes skin inspections and reports findings.
- Data Collection - obtains, records, and reports vital signs and measurements which include temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight, pulse oximetry and pain.
- Respiratory Care- positions residents to promote breathing and maintain open airway, assists with set up and administration of oxygen therapy as ordered.
- Provides direct customer service that is prompt, friendly, and cooperative.
- Uses safe and proper techniques when providing resident care and handling equipment, using Standard Precautions and personal protective equipment.
- Maintains a safe/clean work environment, ensuring resident privacy
- This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty will be a mixture of day, and evening shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays. Additional information will be provided during the interview process

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Additional Pay: - Shift Differential - 10% of basic pay for work performed during regularly scheduled hours between 6pm and 6am.
- Weekend Premium - 25% of basic pay for work performed between the hours of midnight Friday and midnight Sunday. This includes continuous service connected to work performed during these hours.
- Holiday Pay - 2 times basic hourly rate for regularly scheduled, non-overtime work on a designated holiday.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
