After initial training, the post-holder will be able to progress Orthopaedic patients with exercises and mobility towards a safe discharge home independently. They will participate in joint rehabilitation sessions with registered therapists requiring physical effort and the use of manual handling equipment. The post-holder will also be responsible for the maintenance, storage and ordering of walking aids, recording statistics and making onward out-patient physiotherapy referrals as well as other administrative tasks as required. There will be a regular weekend commitment (one weekend day every four weeks) with a non-working day in the week to compensate when these shifts arise. This is part of a roster pattern. The orthopaedics team is currently also going through a consultation regarding extending thier working pattern to provide a service 8am-8pm this may either be as a longer day or a later start and later finish.

Staff To assist in the technical training of trainee staff as directed by training officers. To participate in staff appraisal according to Trust policies and procedures. Laboratory To provide technical support for the genetics laboratory under the direction of the Head of Section. To perform routine genetic analyses on patients referred for a range of genetic disorders, as directed by a registered Clinical Scientist, to enable reporting time targets to be met. To receive and process samples submitted to the Department in accordance with laboratory policies and protocols. To analyse/interpret on a first line basis the results of tests for which he/she is responsible, recording results on worksheets, on result sheets in patient files, and on the laboratory database. To generate reports for normal test results for a specified range of disorders, in addition to samples that are sent for banking or forwarding to other laboratories, prior to checking and authorising by appropriate Scientific staff. To participate in risk management of the department including error reporting. To participate in work rotation in appropriate areas of the dept as required, for specified disorders/tests. To personally organise allocated work. To maintain a high level of professional competence in the performance of all tests and investigations carried out in the section. To accurately prepare, maintain and document adequate supplies of reagents, consumables and plasticware. To ensure the efficient and safe use of consumables and equipment within own working area. To prepare, extract, and store DNA and RNA from blood or other tissues, including prenatal diagnosis to ensure that high quality material is available for diagnostic analysis. To maintain high level of skill using needles, scalpels etc., with potential risk of exposure to sharps injury. To participate in specimen reception/booking in and sample send away duties, including assisting with associated administrative and clerical duties in the laboratory. To be responsible for the day to day maintenance and cleanliness of the equipment with which he/she is working. To participate in internal and external quality control procedures. To participate in quality assurance procedures, as appropriate. To participate in audit as required, relating to numbers and failure rates of tests. To work in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures developed for use in the Department, and assist in the review of these as required. To abide by all Codes of Practice, Safety Regulations, statutory requirements and operational policies of the department and the service. Communication To answer telephone enquiries, liaising with senior staff as appropriate To communicate with other members of the technical team to provide effective cover for work. IM&T To be competent in using the department computer system. Professional To attend in-house training sessions as appropriate, and to maintain personal training records as required. To participate in any national technical training initiatives as appropriate

Image Management File handling NEFF files to create standardised files, e.g. JPEGs, for uploading into the Medical Image Management System (MIMS) Assess images provided to ensure appropriate medical photography views are uploaded to MIMS and corresponding consent level recorded. Digital processing and finishing / printing of images from the Medical Image Management System (MIMS). Processing and managing images provided by others, from out of hours services, for upload into MIMS Accurate data entry and updates within the Job Management System (JMS) Undertaking quality assurance checks within MIMS and JMS When applicable, print to standard templates for Trust, police, solicitors, Crown Prosecution Service. Medical Photography Working within the medical photography team, unsupervised, within standard To provide a medical photography service, working unsupervised within departmental guidelines, adhering to standard views in studio or clinical environment where applicable. Assess situations and assisting patients with dressing/undressing to ensure appropriate medical photography/video views are obtained. Provide studio, out-patient, clinic, and ward photography, working independently within departmental guidelines, to meet the clinical needs of the department, adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines To provide medical video, within departmental studio unsupervised, adhering to standard clinical video protocols / SOPs, adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines. Non-Medical Photography Provide ophthalmic photography, adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines. Provide non-medical photography service, e.g. staff boards and PR, adhering to standard views in studio or clinical environment where applicable. Responsible for own actions working within department guidelines, policies and procedures. Support the department in maintaining the quality assurance accreditation from the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) Ensuring all specialist photography equipment is always managed safely and securely. Media Undertake public relations photography, including. in-house magazine, reports, research, and various associated projects. Photography for exhibitions and displays, booklets and posters. Staff group photography and presentations. Portraiture of trust staff for various use Non-medical photography for patient leaflets, teaching, research, posters etc. Accurate data entry within the Job Management System (JMS) Support income generation activities as appropriate Monitor the poster workload and undertake poster printing ensuring jobs are completed and charged within appropriate timelines. Multi-skilling Participate fully within the multi-skilling rota covering non-medical photography, medical image management, video upload to MIMS, fundus/OCT and poster printing as appropriate. Competent to undertake fundus / OCT photography. Training and personal development Maintain own competence within photography and associated information technology. Maintain own competence to enable appropriate participation in the multi-skilling rota delivering a safe, effective and efficient service To be pro-active in maintaining a Continuous Professional Development Plan. Provide training and supervision for new staff to develop their competence as part of the departmental multi-skilling Other Upholding policies in patient consent, confidentiality, data protection and human rights. Follow departmental and Trust policies and procedures. Managing work within specific deadlines Evening and weekend shifts as service developments require.
