What you'll do

As a Security Business Partner, you’ll support and regularly engage with specialist Security stakeholders including second and third lines of defence, and other relevant stakeholders. Working closely with the Control Testing team, Franchise and Function Control teams and the second line risk, you’ll also provide support on framework execution as an information and cyber security expert, including risk and controls assessments, control design and articulation, control testing and policy compliance, in relation to information and cyber security related risks for the relevant business areas.

You’ll lead informed discussions of information and cyber security risk for relevant business areas and products. We’ll look to you to create a culture of continuous improvement, increasing efficiency and productivity through great people leadership, coaching, engagement and development of skills.

Day-to-day, you’ll:

• Manage stakeholder relationships with Security and support them with managing their risk and control profile
• Provide an aggregated view of the control environment for the relevant information and cyber security business areas
• Support the relevant technology and digital business area in interactions with second and third lines of defence on risk and audit engagements
• Manage the completion of risk and control assessments in line with the risk framework for Security
• Produce and review risk committee packs relating to information and cyber security, including relevant MI and assessing the aggregated risk profile
• Support Security in interactions with second and third lines of defence on risk and audit engagements

The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you’ll need an extensive understanding of the relevant businesses, specifically key products and information and cyber security risks, to enable informed discussions of risk. In addition, you’ll need knowledge of risks and controls associated with information and cyber security, including industry frameworks such as NIST, ISF SOGP, MITRE, COBIT, CRISC and similar, as well as risks associated with technology outsourcing.

On top of this, you’ll bring:

• A breadth of demonstrable knowledge across all cyber and information security domains including privileged access management, security operations, vulnerability management and governance
• Proven ability to deliver high quality outcomes and experience of applying information and cyber security risk and control assessments in an operational and strategic context

General Working closely with Analytics and clinical services, the post holder will ensure that all systems are in place to facilitate the timely and accurate delivery of all mandatory, clinical and informational requirements with the responsibility of external statutory information returns. Deputising for the Proton Clinical Outcomes Unit (PCOU) & Registry Manager as requested. Able to professionally communicate with senior clinicians and service managers, using specialised clinical terminology as required to understand issues being raised in detail. Work closely with other teams in digital services (software development, data engineering) to understand cross over in work streams, and potential implications. Ensure the provision of a first point of contact within the team for all queries, problems, requests and incidents ensuring they are logged and tracked. Advise, support and lead on reporting at appropriate directorate, divisional and Trust level meetings. Present information to large groups such as study management groups or professional interest groups, altering tone and content to meet the needs of the intended audience. Produce written material (such as internal reports and publications) including explanation of technical terms to ensure correct understanding. Provide regular performance reports on progress, status and achievements for senior analyst team within the PCOU and registry. Represent the PCOU/Registry as appropriate in internal and external meetings, reporting back on progress. The post holder must be able to travel and forge effective working relationships with partner organisation as required. Negotiate project scopes and timelines, and quickly update and reassure colleagues of any changes. Deliver bad news to colleagues when necessary, such as delays in provision of data. Liaise with external agencies, suppliers and contractors ensuring delivery of service is in line with agreed contracts. Analytical, Knowledge, Training and Experience Post holder must be adept at researching and understanding complex, multi-departmental clinical dataflows, considering existing dataflows and inform changes harnessing software capabilities to provide the right information at the right time. Post holder will act as one of lead specialists for work area. Expert at understanding problems and utilising various software to provide data insight tools using appropriate analytical techniques. Analyse, investigate, interpret, and resolve complex data queries. Identify the most applicable data sources, methods, and approach to evaluate and present data to meet work specifications of stakeholders. Join multiple data sources and investigate conflicting information where there are a range of solutions and suggest alternative approaches when relevant. Assess the accuracy and integrity of data and information, providing support to reduce data quality issues. Collect, analyse, interpret and disseminate information using established methods within allocated work area. Apply advanced levels of understanding on speciality specific data, applying exceptional attention to details, ensuring the highest quality and efficient new processes are implemented. Identify and advise on the best method and approach to evaluate and present data for the stakeholder needs e.g. quality improvement methods, reports, and dashboards. Be proactive in identifying new and novel methodologies and sharing learning with the wider team. As a senior member of the team, apply statistical and analytical knowledge to critically appraise and challenge the results of outputs ensuring only meaningful information is delivered to the clinical stakeholders. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join our proactive ICT Cyber Security and Compliance Service. This team provides operational security controls, guidance, assurance, and compliance activities that support all products and platforms within the Council. Our mission is to protect networks, devices, and data from unauthorised access or criminal use by ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to protect and defend against malicious cyber-attacks. Our modern, proactive operational Cyber Security team is dedicated to providing:

• Threat Hunting: Actively seek out potential threats before they can cause harm. This involves continuous monitoring and analysis of network traffic, system logs, and other data sources to identify unusual patterns or behaviours that may indicate a security threat.

• Vulnerability Management: Identify and address security weaknesses in our systems. Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, apply patches and updates, and implement security controls to mitigate risks.

• Defence Management: Oversee and fine-tune our defences, including perimeter firewalls, through granular rule and object management. Ensure that our security policies are effectively enforced and that our network is protected against unauthorized access.

• Web and Email Filtering: Implement and manage filters to protect against malicious content. Configure and maintain web and email filtering solutions to block phishing attempts, malware, and other threats.

• EDR and XDR Technologies: Administer and respond to Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR) technologies to swiftly mitigate threats. Monitor alerts, investigate incidents, and take appropriate actions to contain and remediate threats.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cyber security, with relevant experience and skills that include:

• IT Security Operations Experience: Recent experience as a senior member of a multi-disciplinary team managing operational security (firewall, content filtering, DMZ, Pen Testing, Vulnerability Management) and external managed service partners.
• Security Qualifications: Accredited to a recognised Security qualification (e.g., CISSP, CCP, CCSP). The successful candidate must be willing to work towards obtaining a referenced qualification if not already achieved.
• Proactive Threat Hunting: Demonstrated ability to actively seek out and neutralise potential threats. Experience with threat intelligence tools and techniques, and a deep understanding of the latest cyber threats and attack vectors.
• Vulnerability Identification: Expertise in identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities. Experience with vulnerability scanning tools, penetration testing, and risk assessment methodologies.

• Web and Email Filtering: Proficiency in providing and managing web and email filtering solutions. Experience in configuring filters to block malicious content, managing spam and phishing protection, and ensuring compliance with security policies.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

• Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Software Delivery Methods: Knowledge of modern software delivery methods (e.g., DevOps, CI/CD) and how they can be applied within security practices, including experience with automation in the SDLC: Demonstrated experience with automating security processes, including the use of infrastructure as code and automated testing tools
• Proven ability to analyse security requirements and develop security cases compliant with legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001)
• Experience of writing clear, structured reports and delivering presentations tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Hands-on experience conducting vulnerability assessments, prioritising remediation, and maintaining ongoing security with relevant tools and practices
• Security Frameworks and Standards: Familiarity with security frameworks such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Critical Security Controls, or similar
• Strong coding skills in developing and testing secure scripts or programs, ensuring system functionality and security in critical environments.

You and your role

As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will be responsible for embedding security into all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in a large-scale, complex environment.

You will play a key role in maintaining the security of nearly 1 billion lines of code by implementing and maintaining modern software delivery practices, including automation and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring the development and deployment of secure, resilient software solutions.

Working collaboratively with development, operations, and security teams, you will design and implement security policies and controls that prevent vulnerabilities, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.

You will contribute to the enhancement of security processes and tooling that support the DevOps model, ensuring security is integrated at every step of the development cycle.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £38,373.

The General Medical Council is currently looking for a Research and Insight Analyst to work in our Data, Research and Insight Hub. The Research and Insight Analyst, will provide high quality, timely and accurate written insight and analysis outputs to inform policy, process, and operational improvements both within the GMC and for a variety of key stakeholders and organisation across the UK.

Your primary focus will be utilising a range of primary and secondary evidence sources on doctors, medical associate professionals, and the wider healthcare environment, to provide insight into the future of professional healthcare regulation and related policy. This means undertaking research projects, analysing datasets, gathering external information, sharing our insight data, and ultimately delivering a suite of reports and papers on health matters.

An understanding of regulatory and public policy environments will be a distinct advantage. You will have the adaptability to respond to the changing needs of our organisation and fast-moving policy environment. You should have a sound understanding of research management, horizon scanning and other environmental analysis techniques, while experience of working within a policy and research team would be ideal.

Exploring, shaping and undertaking analysis within a small team of research and insight specialists, to support a range of activities including producing publications, presentations and papers for internal and external audiences providing key stakeholders with crucial evidence led intelligence and insight to inform our policy development and decision-making.

This is a hybrid role where you will be expected to work at the Manchester office at least once a week, with Tuesday being the current team day.
