Short summary

The Quantitative Stem Cell Biology lab, headed by Dr Silvia Santos, is seeking a Senior Laboratory Research Scientist (SLRS). The successful candidate will investigate spatio-temporal control of cell division and cell cycle remodelling during cellular differentiation using 2D and 3D stem cell-based models of human gastrulation. The postholder will drive a research project and contribute to collaborative projects within the lab. The postholder will benefit from excellent mentorship and training.

The research group
The Quantitative Stem Cell Biology lab, headed by Dr Silvia Santos, was established in 2018 at the Francis Crick Institute. The lab’s primary focus is understanding cell decision-making. Current areas of research include understanding regulatory mechanism regulating cell fate specification, cell cycle remodeling during cellular differentiation and the interplay between metabolism, cell cycle and cell fate. There is a strong focus on single cell analysis and advanced live cell imaging. The lab uses a variety of model systems: mouse and human embryonic stem cells (ESC), 3D organoid models of mouse and human development and mouse embryos.
The team is multi-disciplinary, diverse and currently composed of three PhD students, two post-doctoral fellow and one principal laboratory research scientist. The Santos lab promotes independent and creative thinking and all members are committed to providing excellent training and mentorship.

The Development Prospect Research team is responsible for leading the prospect research and due diligence function for the Department as well as the preparation of due diligence considerations for Tate’s Ethics Committee. The team also leads on prospect management strategy, monitoring the allocation of prospect pools for individual fundraisers and tracking activities. Alongside undertaking research profiles for all prospects, the team also is responsible for briefing notes for key cultivation events and provides Department-wide sector and global socio-economic insights.

We are looking for a Prospect Research Manager to provide high quality, robust and relevant research. You will also conduct due diligence, deliver training, and identify new prospects for priority projects with a focus on high value fundraising.

Short summary
The Service Delivery Manager manages a team of Science Operations Administrators across multiple floors. The team are the first point of contact for our science colleagues for all operational queries and are required to resolve or co-ordinate their resolution.
You will work alongside two other Service Delivery Managers in developing and managing the administration teams to ensure that all administration is co-ordinated, processes are developed, monitored, followed and continuously assessed to ensure that the team are providing the highest level of operational support to the science. It requires an experienced professional in business support and administration who has developed management skills, thrives in a busy and changing environment.


Key Responsibilities
• To be responsible for developing, managing and overseeing all aspects of the co-ordination of administrative service delivery by being the first point of contact, and source of expertise to Group leaders and Scientific Technology Platform (STP) leads for the administration of the full lifecycle of their research projects.
• To identify opportunities to continually improve processes and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions including implementing, managing, and improving administrative processes by creating templates, standard approaches across the floors, guidance documents, workflows processes, management information and service level agreements.
• To line manage, induct, and develop the Science Operations Administrators across multiple floors.
• To provide project support to senior staff as required, including arranging meetings and acting as the point of contact between external collaborators, operational teams and research staff.
• To provide strategic input into staff resource planning to ensure appropriate level of resources are available to each group/STP at all times.

About the role

The Open Access (OA) team enables one of the fastest growing areas at Springer Nature. It has responsibility for the overall OA business including business strategy, revenue, performance monitoring, business models, policies, and managing OA transition. Part of the wider commercial business, the OA group works in close coordination with both publishing and sales teams.

Are you energetic, good with children and enthusiastic about science? Are you looking to gain key experience for your future career in primary education; performing arts or youth work? We are seeking workshop presenters to conduct engaging science workshops, as well as talented performers to captivate audiences during our science shows in primary schools across Scotland. You will have confident communication skills, a passion for presenting and some experience of working with children. Performance skills and some knowledge of science is desirable but not essential but an interest in learning is a must. Confident drivers, with at least 1 year driving experience strongly preferred. Applicants must live within a 30-minute commute of Edinburgh or Glasgow city centres.

Training sessions and rehearsals will take place throughout January 2025 in Edinburgh. Training/rehearsals paid currently at £84.00 per full day (+ holiday pay).

Trilateral Research is recruiting for a Senior Data Protection Advisor with proven expertise and experience in relation to data protection compliance to join our Data Protection and Cyber-risk service in the United Kingdom or in the Republic of Ireland.



As part of the team, you will be exposed to some of the most interesting data protection challenges of the day, which we resolve on behalf of our varied portfolio of clients. We deliver bespoke services to public, private and third sector clients in the UK and Ireland, supranational institutions, and international organisations. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be supported by a network of experts in delivering services to our clients on some of the most pressing issues of the day.  



The successful candidate will have an excellent working knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)/UK GDPR, and ideally have experience working with other privacy laws and frameworks. Good problem-solving skills are essential to this position, to support tailored data protection improvement and project management for clients. Key responsibilities 

Providing outsourced DPO and DPO Assist services to clients
Undertaking large scale data protection projects for International and Supranational clients, ensuring project deliverables are of a high quality and delivered on time
Line management of one or more Data Protection Advisors
Responsibility for driving key improvements to team systems and processes
Writing briefs for clients on relevant topic areas, including newsletter pieces and other outreach material 
Attending and presenting at client meetings
Business development tasks, including developing proposals and bids for new projects.

An LLM, other relevant postgraduate qualification and/or CIPP/E or other data protection or information security compliance certifications  
5+ years’ experience in a role centred on data protection
Thorough working knowledge of UK or EU data protection legislation
Experience leading assessments and risk management for complex data processing activities
Project management skills, with a proven track record of independently leading projects to successful completion 
Ability to analyse legislative requirements and translate these into organisational practices and solutions  
Experience in line management
Client and stakeholder management skills and experience

Experience of business development and proposal/tender writing
A working knowledge of cybersecurity

Laboratory Research Scientist – Briscoe Lab

Project Summary

A Laboratory Research Scientist position is available in the Briscoe lab. The lab aims to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underpin development, using the vertebrate neural tube as a model system.

The lab is looking for a highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic researcher to help build upon the single-cell transcriptomics technology implemented in Maizels et al. The aim will be to develop affordable new sequencing technologies with increased throughput and resolution, facilitating novel research that would previously not be feasible.
Firstly, this work will feed into multiple on-going projects within the lab studying the transcriptional dynamics that govern cell fate decisions. Additionally, this work will connect with the projects of multiple collaborators working across clinical, diagnostic and commercial settings, who wish to apply the technology to questions spanning cancer therapeutics, immune profiling, brain disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.
The project will involve designing and performing experiments with tissue culture cells and carefully optimising novel genomics protocols. The Laboratory Research Scientist will work in collaboration with other lab members and the ability to work in a team is essential.


Key Responsibilities

• Operating automation protocols with liquid handling robots

Key experience and competencies
The candidate should be open-minded, creative, energetic and bring strong expertise and experimental background in at least one of the fields of molecular genetics, embryonic stem cell differentiation systems, or genomics technologies. Basic knowledge of molecular cell biology (e.g. cell culture, RT-qPCR, electrophoresis gels) is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience in single-cell molecular biology methods and/or lab automation through liquid handling robotics.

About the Role:

The Research and Insights Team is responsible for gathering and analysing data to inform departmental strategy, decision making and delivery. The team contains two positions, the Data and Policy Analyst (this role) who supports (and reports to) the Head of Performance Management. Based within the wider External Relations Team, the Research and Insights Team works with teams across the department to bring better evidence and data to the heart of what the department does and, in particular, to:

• Examine and understand the context of Northern Ireland, including ongoing social, economic, security and political trends and stakeholder relationships, to horizon scan and inform strategy and policy.
• Monitor implementation to assess delivery and inform better operational performance
• Evaluate and assess outcomes against departmental strategic objectives

As the jobholder, you will support the Head of the Team in working to build capability and best practice in data analysis across the department by working across teams, in a range of policy areas to help them make better use of data, demonstrate the value of robust evidence and enhance capacity in performance management. You will also work closely with a strong and extensive network of stakeholders in the Cabinet Office, other Territorial Offices, other UK government departments as well as with colleagues in the NI devolved government and other external delivery partners. Opportunity also exists to participate in, as relevant, the Government Economic or Social Research Membership.

While the role is centred on policy analysis and grounded in knowledge of research methods and evaluation as well as data analysis, all badged and non-badged analysts are welcome to apply given the broad nature of the role and work of the team.

We are looking for someone with a strong track record in collection, collation and analysis of data, using a range of research methods, as well as experience in communicating the findings from data to assess outcomes and inform the development of strategy and policy interventions. Practical experience in developing and implementing appropriate performance (or analytical) frameworks will be important for this position.

As different teams will have different pressures, priorities and development paths regarding data, evidence and performance management, good communication skills and the ability to provide confident persuasive advice will also be critical. The post holder will also require the ability to grasp new ideas and topics quickly and have a willingness to take on new challenges with enthusiasm and commitment. A strong political antenna is not essential but desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities are likely to include:

• Collecting, analysing, interpreting and presenting data and other forms of evidence to assess progress of departmental initiatives, evaluate outcomes, and to help inform new policy proposals and approaches.
• Developing data collection, evaluation and performance reporting mechanisms, including routine reporting such as KPIs and conducting a deep dive analysis of particular issues, to assess the department’s priority outcomes.
• Helping design new areas of research enquiry to gather insights on Northern Ireland regarding social, political, security and economic trends.
• Supporting a range of policy teams in the thoughtful, challenging and constructive analysis of data and evidence (within the wider policy and strategic context) to develop and test hypotheses relating to policy interventions.
• Working with a variety of qualitative and quantitative data, ensuring data and analysis is of high quality and accuracy.
• Communicating and sharing monitoring and evaluation findings, knowledge and expertise.
• Helping stakeholders to translate evidence, monitoring and evaluation results into practice.
• Building and maintaining strong, constructive relationships with NIO policy teams, as well as external partners, to scope data and evidence requirements, and build and manage a shared departmental data repository.
• Contributing to a continuous review of processes in order to ensure consistency and efficiency of data collection and reporting, which continues to meet the requirements of the department.

We are excited to be recruiting a Research and Evaluation Consultancy Lead to join The Brilliant Club. The role will help deliver the goals set out in Join The Club, our ambitious strategy for 2021-26, by growing the charity’s research and evaluation consultancy work via Brilliant Consulting.

The Consultancy Lead will provide research and evaluation services to universities and other education organisations working in the university access and student success space. This role will work alongside a Senior Research and Evaluation Officer to deliver high-quality consultancy projects and will report to the charity’s Chief Impact and Strategy Officer. The role will involve collaborating with different teams from across the organisation and will include coordinating and managing colleagues on consultancy activities. The role will also contribute significantly to business development work to support the charity’s income generation.

The consultancy team is part of the charity’s wider research and impact team, who collectively have two areas of responsibility: evaluating and reporting the impact of the charity’s programmes and providing research and evaluation consultancy and strategy support to education organisations.

The successful candidate will have strong quantitative research skills and have a proven track record of delivering evaluation projects in education or a related field. They will be highly experienced with managing stakeholder relationships and delivering concurrent projects and, ideally, will have also contributed to bid writing and/or other income-generation activities. While this role can be based at any of our offices throughout the UK, some travel will be required (mainly to London) to attend in-person meetings.

The role will best suit someone who:

• has advanced quantitative research skills and knowledge of evaluation methodologies, with experience of constructing comparison groups and running statistical models to understand impact.
• has excellent written and verbal communication skills, ideally with experience of bid writing.
• has experience managing multiple projects concurrently, including managing and quality assuring other colleagues’ work.
• has the ability to manage and analyse datasets using software packages (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R).
