Programmer (python/C) in the Collaborative Computing Project 4 Macromolecular Crystallography.

We look for a programmer in the field of macromolecular crystallographic computing. We seek to develop, implement, and apply methodology for identification and examination of multiple structural states and conformations for this, and will employ the Bayesian decomposition we have developed. Any development is to be implemented within the programs servalcat/refmac for the CCP4 computing programming suite and released publicly.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in crystallographic theory and able to code. The post will be based at Southampton with regular research visits to the LMB Cambridge and to the Research Complex at Harwell for interaction with the CCP4 core team. The project has a focus on time resolved work and cooperates with the UK XFEL hub at the Diamond Light Source. This contract is initially 15 month, but may be extended.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The role of the paediatric research nurse is to: Provide specialist research and clinical care to research participants. Assist in the management, coordination and implementation of research programmes in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonisation/ Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP) and the UK Policy Framework in Health and Social Care Provide clinical supervision to other staff and students. We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to join our Science team on a full-time basis to start in September 2025. This role is suitable for both ECTs, who would benefit from a comprehensive range of support and guidance, and more experienced teachers alike.

Opening exists for a post-doctoral researcher position on a UKRI funded project, Holistic Optical Biomarkers For Early Differential Dementia Diagnosis (HOpE). You will join an inter-disciplinary team of computational scientists, clinical experts and molecular biologists in developing novel computational algorithms for pattern recognition with Raman spectroscopy data. Techniques to be explored include classic statistical methods including low-rank matrix and tensor factorization and more modern deep learning-based methods with quantifying uncertainty in predictions as a primary goal. The post will be based within the Vision, Learning and Control (VLC) research group in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS), working with the investigator, Professor Mahesan Niranjan.

The University of Southampton has a high profile for research and research-led education. For an early career researcher, we offer an environment with a dynamic research culture, an opportunity to interact with a community of researchers working on advanced topics and excellent high performance computing facilities. There is much activity in the pursuit of difficult inter-disciplinary problems, particularly at the computing-health and computing-biology interfaces, of which this project is an example. The Infectious Disease and Epidemiology Research group in the School of Clinical and Experimental Sciences wish to appoint two Research Facilitators to help support the technical aspects of research activities and to assist with the day to day running of research studies undertaken by the group. The research group is based within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton General Hospital.

Our group is undertaking a number of projects looking at the epidemiology of respiratory pathogens. Applications are invited from those with relevant experience of laboratory based microbiology and experience of research governance. Experience of bacterial identification is desirable. These posts are full-time but consideration will be given to those who wish to work part-time. Applicants must be available to work with some flexibility.

• The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
• The duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for organizing and conducting direct control operations to reduce wildlife damage within a geographical area or technical/subject area of program involvement.
• Inspects and surveys areas and, as necessary, will revise existing WDM programs in close consultation with higher-level management.
• May be required to use chemical immobilization and euthanasia drugs to capture and handle wildlife.
• Assists Wildlife Biologists by correctly identifying current, and forecasting future damage, problems and relating them to the damage-causing species.
• Modifies or adapts established damage control techniques as necessary to meet local conditions and address specific environmental, economic or political considerations.
• Assists in the negotiation of cooperative service agreements with landowners, lessees, or administrators to accomplish the goals outlined for the WS program.
• Assists in conducting demonstrations and training for others, including other cooperators or other interested groups, on WDM methods, procedures, and program objectives.
