We are looking for a researcher to join our research team to investigate the benefits of plant bioactive compounds on animal productivity in a collaborative project with academic and industrial partners. The project is addressing the huge wastage of plant crops that occurs during their processing, through the development of innovative and sustainable valorisation strategies that convert agri-food waste streams into next-generation feed additives to increase animal health and productivity.

In particular, you will focus on the extraction and analysis of phytochemicals from differently processed raw materials and encapsulated formulations, using a range of methodologies, to evaluate their potential for application as feed ingredients.

You will have an undergraduate or masters degree in Food Science and Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, or a closely allied discipline, and a strong background in experimental plant bioactive research with good analytical skills, e.g. chromatography, spectroscopy and bioactivity screening methods. You will be a good organiser, a team player, be highly motivated and able to communicate effectively with other members of the research team.

We have an exciting opportunity in the School of Psychology for a highly motivated Research Assistant researcher to join the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. The Co-Centre is an exciting 6-year, 35M Euro Research Investment funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.

The Co-Centre brings together an academic team from 17 research institutions across all 3 jurisdictions. The vision of the Co-Centre is to develop innovative and transformative solutions to transition our food systems to become more resilient and sustainable through a multi and interdisciplinary programme of basic and applied research. The Co-Centre research is structured as Platforms, demonstrator projects and spokes which include targeted projects which are funded wholly or in part by industry. A platform dedicated to Nutrition and Health will provide evidence-based data to encourage the development, acceptance, and uptake of healthy diets from sustainable sources (HDSS) across all population groups.

This role will support Professor Louise Dye to conduct a programme of research within this platform which seeks to understand and ensure equitable access to breakfast provision and intake in children and adolescents across the Island of Ireland. This research will support the transition to HDSS and address micronutrient deficiencies.

Climate change is one of the most pressing concerns we have. Understanding the biological basis of how this affects health of the offspring born to mothers that experience extremes of heat and figuring how we can mitigate against these are critical to ensure healthy babies. We are using an interdisciplinary approach combining novel in vitro 3D approaches to mimic maternal and embryo interactions as well as comparative approaches to determine how acute heat stress alters life-course health in offspring. The candidate will be training in state of the start 3D in vitro models as well as Omics approaches including single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing.

This is an outstanding opportunity for you to work on an exciting project in the Division of Oral Biology within the Leeds School of Dentistry, in collaboration with Haleon and colleagues at synchrotron facilities. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be using dual imaging and diffraction to assess the protective mechanism of action on hierarchical mineralised tissue structures in dental enamel brought about by the application of new formulations of a widely available consumer product. The project involves the use of routine laboratory imaging techniques and the dual imaging and diffraction beamline at Diamond Light Source to study and image oriented structures at multiple length-scales in hierarchically organised mineralised tissues, with and without treatment.

You will have experience working with diseased enamel affected by either caries lesions or erosive wear. Have a first degree related to dentistry or the physical sciences. You will also have experience working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as a willingness to work flexibly and travel internationally and nationally to synchrotron facilities and collaborating institutes.

About the role

As Collections Care Assistant you will work within our Collections Care team during this busy and exciting time for the museum. You will be involved in a wide variety of conservation and collections care activities including assisting with environmental monitoring and conservation cleaning of the collections.

You will assist in the condition reporting, care, data management and recording, assist with the changeover of exhibitions, cleaning and packing of objects from the collection stores and on gallery.

You will work closely with the other members of the Conservation & Collections Care team, supporting the work of the Conservation team, and more widely the work of the Documentation, Registration, Photography and Curatorial teams.

You will undertake conservation object cleaning of collection items where appropriate. You will ensure that these tasks are carried out in a safe and secure manner to comply with current legislation and following best professional practice.

About you

Joining us you will have good knowledge or practical experience of working with historic collections coupled with an understanding of collections care, particularly object handling. You will have good communication skills which will enable you to work well as part of a team.

You will be able to work well under pressure and use prioritising skills to meet deadlines calmly and effectively. Crucially you will have the ability to work to a high standard of accuracy with good attention to detail.

What you’ll be doing:

• Data entry and validation

• Ideally, qualifications in a science subject, preferably a biology discipline or equivalent experience

• Practical IT experience, in particular Microsoft Office applications.

We are now recruiting for an Archive and Library Assistant (Copying) based on-site at the National Railway Museum in York. This is a full-time, permanent role, working 35 hours per week.

About the role

As Archive and Library Assistant (Copying) you will be based in Search Engine to administer the copy service for both public and internal requests. At Search Engine you will deliver the service, working with colleagues within Collections Services, Photo Studio and Picture Library to retrieve collections items and images for scanning, capturing collections information that can be used in the digitisation process.

You will also process payments onto our finance system and maintain accurate records so that orders can be tracked and income monitored. Additionally, you will be supporting Search Engine's volunteer research team, Inreach, by administering orders and payments.

About you

Joining us you will have good customer service experience and the ability to communicate effectively with others. You will be able to work calmly and manage and prioritise tasks effectively in time-sensitive situations, using your good attention to detail to follow processes accurately.

As a key member of the team, you will support a wide range of internal departments across the business including National Sales, Powered, Programming, Program EP’s, Marketing including Trade Marketing, Publicity team. 

Reporting to the Head of Research - Total TV you will be responsible for:

• Responding effectively and in a timely manner to research requests from the sales team
• Producing and maintaining audience reports and dashboards
• Working with the team to proactively develop new sales research presentations and collateral
• Analysing Cross Platform, TV and BVOD ratings and interpreting audience behaviour
• Providing support for bespoke surveys run by the research team
• Using research tools such as L & J Fusion, Arianna, TVMAP, Clear Decisions, Asteroid, iPORT as well as Nine proprietary tools to provide information to sales and other key stakeholders

Two of our museums - the National Railway Museum in York, and Locomotion in Shildon - are home to iconic locomotives and an unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance. We celebrate the past, present and future of innovation on the railways.

Our Volunteers play an important role in the successful delivery of our visitor offer and operational activities. They also support us in caring for our collections and assist our Workshop & Traction team, making a difference to our museum and everything we do.

To help us continue this great work, we are looking for a Volunteering Assistant to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, based at the National Railway Museum in York.

About the role

You will assist in the planning, organisation and successful delivery of the volunteer programme across the Railway Museum in York, and Locomotion in Shildon, ensuring that every volunteer has a fantastic experience with us. You will help to complete recruitment administration and will support enrichment through induction, training and events, and will process vital records including keeping volunteer records up to date and processing volunteer expense claims. At all times, you will effectively communicate with volunteers through in person engagement, emails, and a weekly newsletter.

About you

Joining us, you will bring interpersonal and communication skills with a personable approach; you will be able to work with a variety of different people of different ages and from different backgrounds. You will have an appreciation of the importance of volunteers to the success of the museum, and an enthusiasm for working with and championing volunteers. You will have strong administration skills, and excellent organisational skills across a range of areas, including time management and planning. Ultimately, a flexible and self-motivated approach will be useful, with an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
