Our client is a rapidly growing company dedicated to providing safe access to medicines across various settings, including NHS Trusts, Unscheduled Care, and Primary Care, through a growing network of seven pharmacies and WDA-licensed premises in London, Gloucester and the West Midlands predominantly serving Community and Mental Health Trusts.
They are committed to delivering high-quality healthcare services and are looking for a dedicated Chief Pharmacist to join the team and strategically lead their pharmacy operations.
Role Overview:
The Chief Pharmacist ensures safe, effective, and efficient pharmaceutical services, balancing business growth with high standards of care.
Reporting to the Group Managing Director and working with the Chairman on quality standards, this key Senior Management Team member oversees a small team, including the Pharmacy Quality and Development Manager. The role requires a strategic, hands-on leader to manage and enhance pharmacy operations.
Leadership and Management:
- Provide clinical and strategic leadership to managers
- Advise on recruitment, training, and development of pharmacy staff
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture
Clinical Governance and Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure pharmacy operations comply with GPhC standards and legislation
- Maintain and enhance the Quality System and risk register
- Investigate and report errors, implementing corrective actions
Operational Excellence:
- Develop and implement SOPs and policies
- Conduct regular audits and inspections
- Oversee prescribing quality audits and clinical risk assessments
Patient Safety and Care:
- Ensure safe and effective dispensing of medicines
- Lead initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes
- Address clinical queries and resolve complex cases
Innovation and Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement in workflows, focusing on safety and efficiency
- Implement new technologies and processes
- Ensure organisational processes are updated with developments in pharmacy practice and regulations
Business Strategy and Development:
- Contribute to overall business strategy, especially pharmaceutical products and services
- Lead pharmacy aspects of tenders and bids
- Identify market trends and recommend strategies to enhance market share
- Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Represent the organisation in meetings and professional forums, contributing to policy development
Qualifications:
- Registered Pharmacist with 5+ years in a senior role (e.g., Deputy Chief Pharmacist or Regional Manager), experienced in multi-site management
- Strong grasp of clinical governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management
- Operational management experience in hospital or community settings, including WDA and automation deployment
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven record in operational improvements and high-quality patient care
- Proficient in IT and data analysis, with skills to transform data into business insights
- Strategic thinker capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
