Functions as a member of the Facilities Management Department, Administration Division, Federal Bureau of Prisons(BOP), Central Office, Washington, D.C.

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Central Office buildings and structures.

Performs a wide range of general maintenance duties in the Central Office buildings. The Central Office building includes 490,000 gross square feet and houses approximately 2,000 employees.

Responsible for various phases associated with the construction, repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings and related structures, grounds, fixtures, and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, cement work, painting, welding, roofing, electric, HVAC, and other related trades.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty construction machinery such as Komatsu, Caterpillar, and gensets to ensure optimal performance.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in machinery and equipment.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations.
• Provide technical support and training to machine operators for proper use and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist in generating maintenance reports and updates using basic IT tools to support management reporting.
• Coordinate with the logistics and operations teams to schedule maintenance activities and ensure minimal disruption to operations (negotiable).
• Ensure adherence to safety and compliance protocols during all maintenance activities.

Requirements:

• Proven maintenance experience or a strong machinery engineering background in excavators, forklifts, gensets, and other heavy-duty construction machinery (e.g., Komatsu, Caterpillar).
• Basic IT knowledge to assist in management reporting.
• Positive work attitude with strong problem-solving skills and people management capabilities.
• Nice-to-have (negotiable):
• Knowledge of logistics and operations processes.
• Possession of a valid Class 3 Driving License.

Temporary maintenance workers perform a variety of building and utility maintenance and general maintenance duties for the Buildings and Utilities, Road, Trails and Grounds, Platte River Campground, and the Manitou islands. Work will include:

Buildings and Utilities - You may be assigned to lead journeyman carpenters, plumbers, and electrician with projects related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, masonry, and routine maintenance of generators. May be required to drive pickup trucks and other vehicles up to 1 ton in a variety of traffic situations and road conditions. May operate various types of power equipment.

As a WG-4749-09 your carpenter skills and abilities will be expected to be advanced from a journeyman positon and will be expected to direct or demonstrate tasks to journeyman and laborer positions at or above the skill level of a foreman.

As a WG-4749-09 you may be asked to lead a crew of similar position description on projects or assignments for operations.

As a WG-4749-09 you will be expected to lead or oversee a group of journeymen and laborers or less experienced employees with the same job duties, and provide feedback to encourage a safe learning environment.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Performs carpentry work including roofing, siding, door/window installation, interior/exterior finishing, historic preservation, and framing.
• Performs custodial services, routine building and grounds maintenance, trail maintenance, and dock maintenance.
