Lead on line management responsibilities for all staff employed as part of the Arts for Health Programme, including artists employed on a sessional basis. This will include carrying out staff supervision, appraisals, personal development plans, training plans and reviewing these and operational management issues together with recruitment selection process. This will involve travel across the geography of the Trust. Lead on specialist advice and support to wider Trust staff wishing to develop localised arts-based activities and practice in their setting. Lead all financial management, maintaining agreed budgets, keeping accurate records and generating external funding. The financial management of the project will involve working with the Trust Finance department. Lead the accounting procedures for core Trust substantive funding budget and separate project budgets from external funders. Identify sources for funding and fund-raising to support the development of new projects and safeguard the core project budgets of the programme. Demonstrate leadership style by ensuring professional standards are maintained in all areas of organisational and project work. Actively maintain and demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge of all Arts for Health related initiatives, national guidelines, professional developments, current local and national funding opportunities and central and local government directives. Systems and equipment Use of Trust IT systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, Trac recruitment system and ESR. Use of social media platforms for publicity purposes, including Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter). Decisions and judgements Manage effective delivery of the arts activity projects and events detailed in the Arts for Health Annual Policy Document. Developing, initiating and implementing future strategic plans for the programme, including forward planning. Undertake duties and tasks required to support successful programme delivery. This will include direct development and management of Trust wide projects and supervision of local Arts for Health activities to be delivered by Arts for Health Project Workers. Duties include writing project plans, commissioning artists, supervising artists and volunteers, liaison between artists and Trust staff, ordering materials, attending events and activity sessions, documenting and monitoring event/project attendance, marketing or promoting activities and leading on evaluation of project outcomes. Supporting and overseeing the Team administer with all aspects of the budget, monitoring, website development and communications. Support the Digital Communications worker to have access to information about the programme and the Trust more widely for them to develop a marketing and publicity strategy, using a wide range of social media, website and networks to inform of our work. Ensure all Trust policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to within the area of practice, e.g. risk assessments. Issues pertaining to these policies should be clearly communicated with the line manager. Responsible for own and others health and safety, reporting all issues to the line manager and working within the Trusts Health and Safety policies and the Health and Safety at Work Act. Ensure projects are monitored and documented appropriately for internal use and for funding body reports as necessary, including the use of appropriate Trust procedures related to client confidentiality and photography consent forms. Ensure the correct procedures are carried out regarding stock control and the sale of equipment or goods and the handling of money, where relevant, using agreed protocols. Communication and relationships To liaise with staff in all areas of the Trust in relation to project work, including estates, ward and departmental managers and staff. To maintain good relations with the local arts community and the wider community of Arts for Health organisations nationally. Involvement in audit/research projects and dissemination of findings at local, regional and national level as appropriate. Maintaining existing partnerships with key partners and Arts for Health networks across the region and the country. Representing Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust regionally and nationally within the Arts and Health field. To work across and coordinate multi-disciplinary / multi-agency project teams involved in the delivery of Arts for Health projects. This will involve liaison and negotiation, co-operative working and demonstration of knowledge of differing priorities and approaches. To contribute specialist knowledge to multi-disciplinary project meetings in order to ensure projects are developed in line with Arts for Health best practice and protocols. This will include presentation, verbal reporting and negotiating at local, regional and national level in order to disseminate best practice. Physical demands of the job The post is physically active, with frequent walking between wards, assisting creative practitioners with carrying equipment, occasional lifting, driving to other Trust sites, to external projects and to attend meetings. Most challenging/difficult parts of the job Understanding demands of working on a mental health ward; recognising the need for empathy, patience, the ability to listen and engage with both inpatients and staff where sometimes difficult situations might arise. Engaging with inpatients and staff on adult and older adult acute wards and therefore the post holder may experience some emotional and distressing scenarios, including occasional verbal aggression. Ability to work with constant interruptions. Understanding the need for diplomacy and negotiation when working with a wide range of staff, creative practitioners, service users, carers and members of the public; and occasionally with volunteers and students on work experience.
