Required as soon as possible, a Technician to provide technical and administrative support and practical assistance, primarily to the Design & Technology and Art departments but with flexibility to support other departments as required.

A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic Technician. The post is 37 hours per week, term time only plus 2 additional INSET days. The successful candidate should be confident in the use of technical and practical equipment and with an interest in design, technology, art and craftsmanship.
Main Duties and Responsibilities include:
Preparing classrooms and workshops for use by staff and students, ensuring a safe and tidy working environment
Assisting and supporting teaching staff in delivering practical activities in lessons
Working with teaching staff in the creation of teaching resources and materials
Maintaining, cleaning and repairing equipment (seeking specialist assistance when necessary) in order to ensure safe and efficient operation

The role of the Technician is wide ranging from ensuring equipment and machinery is maintained and safe to use; materials are prepared, and stock maintained; through to assisting teachers and students in the classroom and workshop. An ability to pro-actively anticipate teachers needs would be advantageous, as would employing your expertise in developing new projects.

The department has a broad range of equipment, and the successful candidate will need to feel as confident using a 3D printer and laser cutter as they do a bandsaw and lathe. Full training will be provided on all equipment, as will DATA Health and Safety training, for the successful candidate.

An interest in DT is required and although a DT or technical background would be advantageous, it is not essential as full training will be given.

About the role

The Turbomachinery and Heat Exchanger Analysis and Design group within the Mechanical Systems and Components (MS&C) directorate is responsible for the design, development and analysis of Environmental Control System (ECS) turbomachinery and heat exchangers, as well as LSS and Oxygen backup systems. Responsibilities include providing technical expertise on a variety of projects and programs. You will use your expert knowledge of engineering discipline and standards, processes and tools to ensure compliance to customer and program requirements. Other responsibilities include communicating with Project engineering teams, conduction of design reviews, presentations to internal and external customers and contributing to department process improvement initiatives.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or closely related field with emphasis in heat transfer or thermal sciences & stress analysis
• Proficiency in linear static, nonlinear/elasto-plastic, fatigue (HCF & LCF), modal, shock, harmonic, random vibration, & crack growth analyses
• Strong working knowledge of ANSYS finite element software & classical hand calculation methods
• Team Player
• Ability to mentor others
• Significant experience with new product development in a highly regulated environment
• Ability to analyse and solve complex and challenging problems
• Effectively operate in a matrix organization

They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join them permanently, as a key member of the team, you will be responsible for producing P&IDs, layouts, and general arrangement drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD Lite, while contributing to the development of a 3D library for standard plant items.

Job Duties (include but are not limited to)

• Produce drawings in a timely manner and with attention to detail on behalf of the projecting team
• Develop 3D library for standard plant items
• Liaise with clients on all design details
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings to assist fabrication including general arrangements, part drawings, developments, and templates
• Produce piping and steelwork fabrication drawings in the form of Isometrics, general arrangements, and orthographic
• Review & check detailed design drawings of piping systems, supports and steelwork in accordance with industry standards, codes and client specifications
• Prepare & check bill of materials
• Provide support and input into the preparation of manufacturing work packs

Personal Qualities and Qualifications desired

• Excellent working knowledge of SolidWorks, accredited in CSWP/CSWE is beneficial
• A good understanding of 2D CAD packages i.e. AutoCAD is desirable
