This position reports directly to the Assistant Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the VA Northern California Healthcare System. The Pain Section Chief, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&R), is responsible for the administrative supervision, management, and direction of the PM&R Pain programs, including the Interventional Pain and Chronic Pain programs.

The principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Administration:

• Leadership responsibilities: Organizing Pain section staff meetings, communication both down to staff, across to other Section Chiefs, and up to PM&R Leadership, as well as crafting congressional responses, heads up and issue briefs, when requested to do so by VHA PM&R Leadership.

• Time and Leave Management: Tour of Duty assignment and documentation, including VISTA/VATAS approvals of leave, timecard certification, and approvals of clinic cancellations.
• Business Planning: Systems redesign; manage service DSS mapping (workload); staffing needs; capacity and demand analysis resource needs (i.e., equipment, IT, supplies, space, etc.) followed by oversight of preparation of the annual Service Business Plan to be presented to Senior Leadership.

The PM&R Pain is responsible for delivery of pain and rehabilitative care for outpatient PM&R Pain clinics including medication management and interventional management. This position is Pain Management, Opioid Safety and Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PMOP) funded position.

The principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provides comprehensive pain and rehabilitation care to veterans through clinical evaluation and treatment within the outpatient Pain Program, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) clinics and inpatient care as needed.
• Performs medication management including opioids, spine and other pain procedures, ultrasounds, non-medication management of pain including physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc. and conducts Pain and PM&R clinics as needed and comply by all PMOP requirements.

This position serves as the Security Assistant for Police Service within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) with a primary purpose to monitor physical security equipment and systems. Major duties and responsibilities include:

• The Pipefitter receives work assignments from the supervisor through work orders, oral instructions, building plans, blueprints and sketches. The pipefitter works on steam piping, valves, steam straps, steam powered equipment, pressure regulators and many other items connected with steam. The incumbent works on disposal and utility systems, such as waste, placement, slant, slope and fall of systems. The pipefitter installs and performs maintenance on all plumbing fixtures and equipment and works with all types of piping and valves (copper, galvanized, black, cast iron, PVC, ABS, glass and fuse seal). • Assure patients have pre-appointment requirements completed prior to PCP appointments.
• Alerts providers (physicians/nurse practitioners) of abnormal signs and symptoms and/or abnormal test results to expedite care.
• Assist with patient education related to managing risk factors, medications, procedures, and other medical regimens related to their disease process, within scope of practice.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Minimum 1-2 year current Primary Care (PACT) experience;
• Clinical experience in caring for patients in Ambulatory Care;
• Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team;
• Ability to document using electronic medical record
• Ability to work in a team setting
