Mental Health Connect: Core responsibilities include providing include providing triage and evaluation services to Veterans new to Mental Health. Addiction Psychiatrist: Core responsibilities include providing comprehensive psychiatric medical care (assessment, consultation, treatment) to patients in the Dallas Mental Health Gold Team, an outpatient clinic focusing on providing care to Veterans with addictions and substance use disorders, or Diamond Team, a general mental health team.

Primary Care - Mental Health Integration Psychiatrist: Core responsibilities include providing integrated mental health care in primary care clinic settings through collaboration with primary care physicians and primary care nurses. Physician should be competent in the management of individuals with a broad range of clinical problems, including but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, substance use disorders and psychiatric disorders in the elderly Veteran population.


Work Schedule: Generally Monday - Friday (8:00 am to 4:30 pm) with light on-call responsibilities but varies by work area. Flexible work tours and telework may be available.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
-Evaluates potential residents, conducts screenings, intakes, psychosocial assessments, groups, individual and family counseling, referrals, collateral contacts, recommending passes, discharge planning and completes required documentation from admission to discharge.
-Conducts groups for Veterans who are pending admission to residential care to support their psychosocial stability. Conducts psychotherapeutic and psychoeducational groups in the residential setting.
-Works as the case manager of the interdisciplinary treatment team and works to coordinate the Veteran's care while admitted to the program, from admission to discharge.
-Provides multiple causation diagnostic evaluations and psychotherapy to Veterans, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
-Completes the C-SSRS, Comprehensive Suicide Risk Assessment, Suicide Behavior Overdose Report, and Suicide Prevention Safety Plan as per national and local policy.
-Develop content for individual, family, and group therapy to obtain MHRRTP goals and objectives.
-Provide consultation services to colleagues, new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
-Provides education about VA mental health programs to both internal and external stakeholders.

Incumbent is responsible for assuring that various aspects of staffing, training, compliance, reporting, quality assurance, and budgetary initiatives are met. These activities directly affect the revenue cycle, patient access to care, hospital performance goals and objectives, as well as VHA public image. The incumbent plays an integral role in identifying and developing ways to resolve problems with the administrative and clinical staff on access, customer service, patient flow, revenue, and data validation issues. Their work also impacts processes, action plans, monitoring, and reporting. Failure to perform these duties properly could result in the Veteran not receiving the treatment to which they are entitled or priority access to care to which they are entitled. The lack of coordination provided by this employee could have a negative impact upon clinical and/or administrative functions. A large part of the duties of the incumbent is acting as a receptionist at the clinic, either face-to-face or telephonic, requiring excellent customer service skills. The work requires a high degree of judgment in responding to both employee and patient concerns and providing solutions to process problems as they affect day-to-day operations. The work is mostly sedentary and is performed in various outpatient clinic or office settings responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems. The performance of daily rounds to the assigned clinic areas is required. This may include frequent visits to off-site clinics to fill-in for or interact with the Clinical Support Section employees and clinical/administrative staff in these areas.
