The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. The Neurosurgeon is required to deliver surgical procedures in the operating room, and clinical services in the Neurosurgery Section within Surgical Service. Responsibilities include performing surgical operations, outpatient ambulatory surgical procedures and clinic duties, and outpatient and inpatient surgery consultations for new and established patients.
In addition to the above, the Neurosurgeon is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Providing assessments as appropriate in the outpatient setting; conducting administrative and academic components of the specialty.
- Collaborating with providers in other medical and surgical services including appropriate referrals.
- Performing appropriate evaluations of patients.
- Providing a full range of therapeutic interventions for inpatients on the medical unit; maintaining clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management.
- Participating in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
- Orders diagnostic tests and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to make appropriate treatment decisions.
- Utilizing electronic medical records to accurately document treatment in a timely manner.
- Responsible for completing patient encounters, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines, VA Handbook 1907.
- Patient care may be delivered via face-to-face, Telehealth, or phone consultation, as well as consultation via face-to-face encounters, MyHealtheVet, and e-consults.
- Ensuring that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, and VA policies and procedures in all aspects of their duties as required.
- Ensuring that the practice of medicine is consistent with clinical practice, Neurosurgery guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.
- Serving on hospital committees and peer review programs as needed.
- Ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance of the Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards.
- Train and provide supervision for mid-levels
- Performs other directly related duties as required.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
