An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Solution Architect to join our Information Services team.

About the role
The Technology Strategy team within our Information Services directorate is only two years old but is already making a difference at the University of Glasgow, bringing new insight and thinking to the challenges and opportunities facing our students, researchers, and staff.

The Senior Solution Architect is in the strategic driving seat of some of our most impactful and high-profile projects, such as driving student success through CRM, developing and delivering a diverse and dynamic curriculum, and embracing AI to deliver engaging learning experiences and new insights and possibilities. Shaping the design and delivery of the building blocks of our students, researchers, and staff's success, you'll work with colleagues at all levels across the university directly on the initiatives that matter to them most, illuminating opportunities and risks and bringing fresh perspective and insight. You'll report to our Lead Enterprise Architect on building not just the architecture assets which underpin our services, but also developing the team at a pivotal point in its evolution.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Set and drive the adoption of key strategic areas of the university’s technology provision.
Visionary Guidance: Lead and inspire teams with clear direction, open collaboration, and innovative strategies.
Platform Architecture: Architect and design key business platforms ensuring scalability and alignment with the university’s strategic aims.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Data Quality Analyst to join the University on a permanent basis.

This role is part of the statutory returns team, which is responsible for the external reporting of accurate data in accordance with HESA and SFC. The successful candidate will be responsible for improving the quality and managing key information assets, aimed at improving the overall data and data governance maturity of the University. This includes the collection, audit and validation of data, applying both internal data quality processes and ensuring compliance with the HESA and SFC data collection rules. A key part of the role of the team is the analysis of the returns, impacts on the University and the presentation of management information.

The postholder will have an in-depth understanding of the lifecycle, structure and appropriate use of student data to provide expert advice and recommendations to inform management decisions and support a wide range of data users. They will be a source of advice and experience in business processes and technical understanding of specific areas and provide recommendations within professional guidelines to meet service requirements.

About you
With experience of working in both traditional and agile delivery environments, you will also have experience in pragmatically applying architecture frameworks to real world challenges, as well as solutions architecture design for complex IT projects such as enterprise CRM, ERP or Product Management.

The successful candidate will have the ability to author and maintain substantial and critical deliverables and architectural artefact, and will possess extensive analytical skills, with the ability to balance short term and long term needs with pragmatism, clarity and transparency.

You will have accreditation in Enterprise Architecture either generally (e.g. ISEB/BCS or similar) or in a specific framework such as TOGAF or Zachman, as well as a grounding in all areas of technology provision, extensive knowledge across a range of areas of technology and an awareness of current trends.

The postholder will join us at the Scottish Centre for Macromolecular Imaging (SCMI, https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/cvr/facilities/scmi/ ). The SCMI is a consortium of 4 Scottish universities with an interest in cryo-EM – University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh, University of St Andrews, and University of Glasgow, where we are based. We deliver high-quality single particle and tomography data to users from our consortium partners and externally using our flagship CRYO ARM 300 microscope. We also run a sample preparation laboratory and microscopes for negative staining and cryo-screening. These are mostly used by users from University of Glasgow in our role as their local cryo-EM facility but are also available for external use. The work is varied, with many projects and users coming through the facility. On average, we have around 30 active users each year, from total beginners through to experienced principal investigators.

The primary role of this post will be to support SCMI users with their data processing tasks, from data delivery post-acquisition through to deposition and archiving. Example activities include delivering user training in image processing, implementing data processing pipelines and managing our data storage array.

The postholder will be a motivated scientist with a proven interest and aptitude for biological imaging and structural biology. This position is full-time (35 hrs per week) open ended.
