Working across a 7-day service rota
This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and develop the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective multi-disciplinary service to Trauma & Orthopaedic patients at University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).
You will be enthusiastic and highly motivated to drive the Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Service forward in line with local and national guidelines. Working with other senior members of the multidisciplinary therapy team, you will ensure a well-coordinated, flexible and responsive service for patients and stakeholders. Working to the highest standards, you will facilitate patient care and support and train our highly committed teams of physiotherapy staff.
You will carry a complex trauma & orthopaedic caseload, and take the lead role in the delivery, co-ordination and evaluation of the physiotherapy service for this area. You will lead an inpatient service committed to the principles of Enhanced Recovery, and the pre-assessment service. You will be responsible for supervision, education and appraisal of other team members including Band 5 & 6 Physiotherapists, and therapy support workers.
You must have significant post-registration experience, with experience at Band 6 level in relevant clinical settings. You will be supported to develop clinical and managerial skills at Band 7 level by the Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Lead.
• To undertake a significant complex clinical caseload of patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery in both elective and trauma settings.
• To develop, clinically and strategically, the Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy service with guidance from T&O Inpatient Therapy Lead, working closely with the MDT, Surgical Specialties Matron, Orthopaedic General Manager, Senior Therapy Team, Acute Therapies Services Manager and Professional lead for Physiotherapy to implement directorate and Trust objectives in line with national guidelines.
• To provide skilled day-to-day leadership in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the therapy service at UCLH.
• To undertake/lead evidence-based audit and research projects within the Directorate, including recommendations for change in practice to the Therapy Service management team and the Directorate, assisting in the implementation of specific changes to practice including policy changes and service protocols.
• To focus on developing and promoting the role of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists within the specialty, as well as developing and promoting protocols and standards in the care Trauma and Orthopaedic patients.

• To be responsible for daily operational activities, including; planning, evaluation and development of the team
• The post holder is responsible for induction, training and supervision of junior staff, students and Therapy Instructors on rotation in the Team.
• To be responsible for providing clinical leadership to the Trauma & Orthopaedic Therapy Team.
• To provide time-tabled support and facilitate cross-cover during staff absence within the virtual fracture clinic
• To participate in 7-day service rota, including weekend and bank holiday working.
• To lead on rota management, ensuring adequate provision of staff across both Trauma and Elective services.
This vacancy has been advertised in accordance with the new NHS pay rate which will take effect from autumn 2024. Please note if your employment starts before the 24/25 pay scales are implemented you will be paid under the 23/24 pay scales and any backpay will be adjusted accordingly.
