This is an opportunity for an Orthoptist to join our eye care team in a busy, supportive department based at Queen’s Medical Centre campus. The department is forward thinking, progressive and has a great reputation for student clinical placements,. The Orthoptic department has a varied caseload, the post holder will participate in paediatric and adult ocular motility clinics, the assessment of patients referred from eye casualty. The department is a clinical placement centre for orthoptic undergraduates, optometrists, medical students, post graduate medics and other health professionals and the post holder would be expected to contribute to this clinical teaching role.

The othoptic department has an established preceptorship/clinical supervision programme for new graduates and new staff to the team.

A Diploma/Degree in Orthoptics plus HcPC registration is required.

Participate in the of delivery care across all elements of the service including paediatric and adult orthoptics, new patient orthoptic/optometry clinics, paediatric ophthalmology, adult squint and neuro-ophthalmology.

Provide orthoptic expertise for patients referred from eye casualty and from other specialities such as maxillofacial, neurology, stroke, paediatrics.

Work flexibly to support the needs of the service, this may include supporting the visual fields service and training for additional roles

Demonstrate a good team working ethic in delivering holistic patient care.

The successful candidate will be working with the multidisciplinary team in the Ophthalmology Department comprising of Orthoptists, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Technicians, OSPs, the nursing and admin teams.

Ophthalmology Services include eye casualty, day case, in-patient and outpatient facilities. It has strong links to the University of Nottingham through research and works closely with the regional Diabetic Eye Screening Service. We have a large team of Consultant Ophthalmologists, who provide outpatient and surgical services in a full range of Ophthalmology sub-speciality clinics.

The post holder will be required to work various shifts to support the needs of the service. This includes working weekdays, weekends, bank holiday days and varying hours with the earliest start time at 7.00am and the latest finish at 8.00pm. You are strongly urged to consider your suitability to meet the service requirements prior to applying for this post. Typical rota is one late clinic/week and one Saturday/month.


As a Specialist Orthoptist, maintain the delivery of a high standard of clinical work within all aspects of the orthoptic practise and clinical teaching.

Work as an autonomous practitioner in undertaking orthoptic assessment, diagnosisand management of patients of all ages, ranging from pre-term babies to the elderly and who have various communication abilities and who have been referred from a variety of sources.

We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician to work within our well-established medicine and integrated care speciality. The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant policies relating to administration of patient care. The current Pain Management service undertakes consultant led outpatient and diagnostic services, treatments and intervention and work closely with community Pain providers to provide care to patients in the most appropriate setting according to their clinical needs.

The Pain service is situated at the city Hospital Campus where there is a dedicated outpatient unit (excluding paediatrics which is situated at the QMC Campus) and includes a specific area to undertake outpatient pain injections. We also undertake Daycase pain injections in our Day Surgery Unit. Our Nurse Consultant provides nurse-led Pain Management including post injection follow-up, medication and annual reviews as well as undertaking pain infusions in the Medical Daycase Unit at the Treatment Centre (on the QMC Campus).

The appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties with the agreed Job Plan.

Clinical

Full-time Consultant Neurologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post will entailthe delivery of neurology services in the region. The successful applicant will work within a team of Consultant Neurologists. As well as provision of General Neurology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings, the candidate will be expected to provide sub-specialty expertise to complement the delivery of a high quality, comprehensive Neurology service by the department. Sub-specialty expertise in Epilepsy and motor neurone disease would be a major advantage, in this regard.

The successful candidate will be expected to do a mix of general neurology clinic and subspecialty clinics. Booking criteria for general neurology clinics are per the ABN guidance with 30 minutes allocated for a new patient and 15 minutes for each follow up patient. It is expected 5 patients are booked into each general neurology clinic and the rest of the clinic can be follow up slots. Each Clinic session is usually 4 hours. The number of clinics expected to be performed by the successful candidate is included in the job plan attached.

The post-holder will be responsible for the care of patients in his or her charge. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of teaching and training to students at Nottingham University Medical School, as well as to contribute to the teaching, training and supervision of Specialist Trainees in Neurology, who are in the East Midlands Deanery training programme

Clinical Neurology forms part of the Nottingham Regional Neuroscience Unit and serves the population of Nottingham. It also provides an outreach neurological service to Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield. We continue to engage with other peripheral hospitals and support their neurology services as needed

The delivery of Inpatient Care is on a “Consultant of the Week” (COTW) system, and the post-holder will contribute to what is currently a 1 in 15 rota. The neurology ward is shared area with neurosurgery, on average we expect around 15 neurology inpatients we look after on neurology beds or outliers during an oncall week. This will be in addition to patients referred for a neurology advice under other specialities.

Every Thursday morning, a Multi-disciplinary handover meeting is held, and it is expected that all Consultants will attend this meeting.

The Neurology department runs a Hyper-Acute Neurology Unit (HANU). The creation of the HANU is part of a wider programme within the Trust to enhance the provision of same day Emergency Care (SDEC). Referrals to the HANU come from acute, unselected medical areas as well as from Primary Care. The HANU has proven enormously successful, and as SDEC services are expanded and re-organised we expect the opportunities for working more closely with medical and surgical specialisms in the near future so as further to enhance the service. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of HANU services, according to a rota.

In 2020 NUH created an Acute Rescue Team (ART) on the City campus. The purpose of this team is to improve the standard and timeliness of care provided to acutely unwell and deteriorating patients. This is a team of four in addition to a fifth Patient Safety Fellow working within patient safety.

We are seeking a colleague to join our ART team from February 2025 for 12 months.

During the tenure of the post, there will be the opportunity to work ‘in hours’ for 6 months in each of two specialties – Haematology, Respiratory, Renal, SRU (admission area for oncology, haematology, renal and Infectious diseases) or Cardiology. There is also the option to remain in one specialty for the full 12 months.The post we are recruiting to will commence in Haematology for the first 6 months.

Doctors will work their ‘normal working days’ (Monday to Friday) in their base specialty, usually 09:00 – 17:00. Their ‘on calls’ will be working twilight shifts 16:30 – 02:30 as a block of Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday with a 1 in 5 frequency.



The ART Fellow's are service posts so do not have educational approval, but successful applicants will be provided with excellent training and educational opportunities, tailored to meet individual needs. Where service provision allows, successful applicants are encouraged to attend educational teaching sessions.
