MAJOR DUTIES:

• Coordinate initial emergency response, evaluating incidents, soliciting all necessary information, and applying judgment according to interagency guides, protocols and pre-plans.
• Receive and evaluate emergency calls, soliciting information to initiate an appropriate response of emergency services personnel, acquiring critical information (law enforcement, fire, medical search and rescue, etc.) from the public and other public safety agencies.

Major Duties:
At the GS-05, duties may include:

• Collects and organizes field data.
• Performs routine and recurring testing of collected samples.

Duties at all grade levels: The incumbent(s) will organize, coordinate, and implement the field work (i.e., data collection) component of the air resources, water resources, environmental contamination, integrated pest management programs and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs.

Starting at $19.02 Per Hour (GS 5-7)

Positions are located in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area (GS-05 Only), and the Paradise (Longmire) and Sunrise (Enumclaw) areas of Mount Rainier National Park.

MAJOR DUTIES: As a general Park Ranger, you will respond to medical emergencies, be a part of the park's search and rescue cadre to the level of your training and may participate in the park's wildland fire program (if red carded). You interact with visitors in the field and in an office environment, providing information on Leave No Trace ethics, park regulations, wildlife encounters, and general area information. As relationships with outside agencies is critical to operational success, you will help to maintain positive work relationships with local communities, user groups, local and state law enforcement and emergency services, and other resource/cultural based land management agencies. You will provide medical care at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level parkwide. You will perform a wide range of duties, including emergency medical services (EMS):

• Operate ambulances and other emergency vehicles in a safe and skilled manner.
• Maintains EMS and rescue equipment in a response-ready state and regularly performs related work projects as assigned during daily shift.
• Performs patient care in a variety of rugged environments involving lifting, moving and carrying for extended periods with exposure to extremes in temperature and uneven terrain.
• Performs search and rescue operations in remote and technical environments, often carrying heavy loads for long distances.
• May perform as a member of a team aboard helicopters during medical evacuations and rescue operations.
• Works safely and effectively, utilizing PPE (personal protective equipment) and proper work practices, while performing in hazardous work environments including motor vehicle accidents, structural fires, HAZMAT, plane crashes and mass-casualty incidents.
• Performs tasks as assigned under incident command system (ICS) and interacts routinely with outside agency emergency personnel.
• Completes in-service training sessions on emergency equipment and procedures for area emergency personnel in various emergency care related topics including but not limited to patient assessment and care, scene safety, rescue procedures, extrication, etc.
• Traffic control which includes directing of traffic, movement of vehicles, monitoring for available spaces and enforcement of parking.
• At Whiskeytown, conduct patrols of park beaches and lakes via non-motorized and motorized vessels in an effort to reduce drowning and increase compliance with boating safety rules.

Whiskeytown NRA: Whiskeytown Lake's crystal-clear water is perhaps the most recognized feature of the park. However, water-based recreation is only a part of what the 42,000-acre Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has to offer. Visit waterfalls, hike through rugged mountains, explore California Gold Rush history, and observe post-fire ecology in action. Summers are hot and dry with potential for poor and hazardous air quality due to wildland fires. Park housing may be available either in Redding, CA (10 miles away) or in the park. Mount Rainier NP, Longmire: The park is located in southeast Pierce County and northeast Lewis County. The park encompasses 236,381 acres; it rises abruptly from the surrounding land with elevations in the park ranging from 1,600 feet to over 14,000 feet. Over two million people visit Mount Rainier National Park each year. Eatonville Washington is the closest community providing a medical clinic and grocery store 44 miles from Paradise. All services can be found in Puyallup 65 miles from Paradise.

Mount Rainier NP, Enumclaw is located approximately one hour south of Seattle, near the community of Buckley. Both are medium sized rural communities of several thousand people with convenience stores, gas, churches, licensed childcare, doctor, dentist, banks, grocery stores, pharmacy, movie theaters, etc. The climate is considered moderate at lower elevations, but is frequently overcast and rainy during fall, winter and spring. • Provides information on cultural resources. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors cultural resources, identifies potential threats.
• Conducts archeological research (designs and implements survey) to meet resource needs of the park.
• Assists with coordinating park cultural resources strategies in accordance with protection strategies to minimize human impacts. Collaborates with other programs and contractors to minimize impacts to cultural resources.
• Incorporates appropriate GIS technology into job to provide comprehensive and scientifically sound answers to inquiries from technical supervisor, managers, and others. Uses automatic methods of data collection, analysis or illustration. Inputs data into digital form and uses computer applications for data analysis, manipulation, and presentation.
• Provides information and makes contributions that are reviewed by the technical supervisor to park documents such as the resources management plan, fire management plan, and spin-off documents such as work plans, action plans, revisions, and fiscal and budget documents.

• Uses a variety of contracting processes to provide engineering oversight for construction, architecture, or engineering contracts.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation, such as logs, reports, photographs, correspondence, status reports, record of meetings, conversations, etc.

Close to the California mainland, yet worlds apart, the park encompasses five of the eight California Channel Islands (Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara) and their ocean environment, preserving and protecting a wealth of natural and cultural resources. The park bridges two biogeographical provinces and in a remarkably small place, harbors the biologic diversity of nearly 2,500 miles of the North American coast.
The Channel Islands are home to over 2,000 plant and animal species, of which 145 are found nowhere else in the world.

Like the Galapagos Islands of South America, isolation has allowed evolution to proceed independently on the islands. Marine life ranges from microscopic plankton to the blue whale, the largest animal to live on Earth. Archeological and cultural resources span a period of more than 13,000 years of human habitation.

The protection of these fragile island resources was ensured when Congress, in the act that created Channel Islands National Park in 1980, established a long-term ecological monitoring program to gather information on the current health of resources and predict future conditions. This information provides park and natural resource managers with useful products for recreation planning, conservation and restoration programs, and early identification of critical issues.

The islands were set aside by Congress not only to preserve these resources, but also to provide for your enjoyment. If you visit the park, you will be one of a very select group. Few people actually see this park because it is not easy to get to-you can't drive to the islands. A short but exciting ocean voyage or a commercial flight in a small airplane is required. The park is one of the least visited of all of America's national parks. The relatively light visitation enhances the islands' feeling of solitude and assists in the protection of fragile resources. In establishing the park, Congress recognized the value of solitude by allowing for low intensity, limited entry visitation. So a visit to this national park will always provide a marked contrast to the bustle of southern California most people experience. It will always be a place where you can step back in time and experience coastal southern California the way it once was.

Starting at $120,246 Per Year (GS 13)

• Produces original designs, concepts and visual styles to evoke certain responses from viewers.
• Decides on design matters as size, layout, kind and quality of materials, medium, color schemes, typography, lighting effects, specific visual elements or materials to be incorporated (e.g., photos, illustrations, or artifacts), reproduction methods, or printing techniques.

• Serve as Ecologist under the direction of the Branch Chief of Aquatic Wildlife of the Resources Management and Science Division in Yosemite National Park.
• Develop and implement science-based ecological management mitigation strategies for aquatic wildlife.
• Use scientifically sound management and knowledge of aquatic ecology principles to mitigate or minimize proposed or planned project impacts to native aquatic species and habitat and to design and implement appropriate management actions to mitigate these threats and satisfy legal requirements.
• Lead or assist with minimal supervision in the planning, design, implementation, and resolution park compliance related document preparation pertaining to aquatic wildlife and associated habitats, including NEPA (e.g., Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements), Biological Assessments for threatened and endangered species consultation (Section 7 Endangered Species Act, and Minimum Requirement Analyses for work in Wilderness settings.
• Implement effective ecologically-based aquatic wildlife management activities that include protection and restoration of threatened or endangered species (such as Sierra Nevada Yellow-legged frog, California Red-legged frog, Foothill Yellow-legged frog, Yosemite toad, and Western Pond turtle while controlling exotic animals such as American bullfrogs, crayfish and red-eared slider, through the development of management goals and objectives designed to achieve identified restoration goals, and implement effective monitoring strategies to ensure goals and objectives are met.
• Develop personal contacts with other ecologists, resource managers, and subject matter experts of other agencies to promote the core long-term mission of the agency in the preservation and effective management of natural resources.
• Perform long periods of indoor sedentary office work (document writing) as well as engage in strenuous work outdoors in physically dangerous areas (construction zones) or settings (helicopters) in all types of weather hiking long distances and carrying heavy objects.

• Assists with all phases of budget and related financial management matters.
• Applies accepted accounting principles in carrying out all transactions affecting the general ledger.

Major duties include the following:

• Manages and administers housing program; managing operations and utilization of family housing facilities, including seasonal housing, housing allocation process, and coordination of maintenance and repair procedures.
• Reviews expenditures for housing operations, develops recommendations for resources, and formulates budget (accounting income and expenditures).
• Coordinates leasing opportunities in the local commuting areas, advises local program participants in preparing budgets, required reports, and budget reviews.
• Arranges temporary lodging of visitors or guests in commercial facilities (hotels, motels, etc.) during unusual peak occupancy periods.

These positions are located at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in the Division of Interpretation, Education and Partnerships, and are supervised by the parks' Transportation Specialist. These parks receive significant visitation (~1.7 million annually) and administratively are among the most complex units of the National Park Service. These parks include some 550 permanent and temporary federal employees as well as over 1,000 volunteers who provide a wide range of public service and support operations which are similar to operations more typically found in a municipal city. These are five major divisions, each of which is further subdivided into functional branches.

Duties:

• Monitors vehicular traffic levels against pedestrian traffic and controls intersections with regards to safety and smooth flow of vehicles.
• Monitors parking lots, directing vehicles including buses and recreational vehicles to appropriate parking stalls.
• Answers a variety of visitor questions.
• Explains regulations to park visitors and provides information and advice on park activities and cultural, historic, and/or natural resources history and location.
• Provides public orientation and explanations of current park events and informs visitors of potential safety hazards.
• Provides a wide range of services to visitors, including assistance with lost articles, lost parties, car trouble, and first aid (within parameters of current certification); and provides information about weather conditions, highway routes, park and concessioner facilities, and prices.
• Reports to supervisor and public use/recreation/traffic violations or individual visitor use problems or problematic trends, describes extend of problem and makes on the spot corrections whenever appropriate, reports names of witnesses and/or involved persons when possible. Anticipates traffic/parking management problems and suggestions to immediate supervisor.

The person(s) in this position work closely with staff in the 0025 - Park Ranger series. There may be opportunities for the person(s) in this position to provide interpretive programming (such as interpretive talks, evening campfire programs, and guided walks), to the public, depending on interest and ability.

Identification and analysis of community needs, resources, and problems, and assist local and state officials and citizens to make decisions on goals, policies, priorities, plans, programs, and methods of implementation; Must work through established local, regional, State, and Federal agency policies to develop community assistance goals, and the provision of public outdoor recreation facilities; The preparation of comprehensive, statewide short- and long-range development plans for outdoor recreation facilities and resources based on community needs, program priorities and available funds.
3. Help officials responsible for decisions to obtain a comprehensive view of problems and operations, to be aware of the range of alternative solutions, and understand the relationship and long range impact of present decisions; work with the physical, climatic, economic, social, political, and financial conditions in communities, the process of change, and the policy questions related to guiding that change.
4. Supports program reviews for consistency with applicable laws, regulations, program policy, guidance, and procedures.
5. Coordinate planning activities and programs at and between several jurisdictional levels (local, regional, State, and national); and maintain an overview and evaluate policies and planning documents after initial application to update them or to suggest other approach; Coordinating programs and projects with other Federal, State, and local agencies, public officials, historic preservation offices, local developmental authorities, and other affected non-Federal organizations.

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Starting at $60,541 Per Year (GS 9-12)

Multiple positions will be filled at multiple locations. Pay rates, start dates and amount of travel required will vary based on duty location. These seasonal positions cover plant-related work in three different fields:
Klamath Inventory and Monitoring Network: Ashland, OR (GS-06,7 only) NOT a telework eligible position, You may be expected to travel for this position up to 16 nights/month, Regular Drivers License required.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP : Sequoia and Kings Canyon, CA Telework eligible position with supervisors approval, You may be expected to travel for this position up to 15 nights/month, Regular Drivers License required.
Mount Rainier NP : Longmire, Ashford and Packwood, WA (GS-06,7 only) Telework eligible position with supervisors approval, You may be expected to travel for this position up to 22 nights/month, Drivers License may be required.
North Cascades NP: Marblemount, WA Government housing may be available, You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 22 nights per month, Drivers license, may be required.
Olympic NP: Port Angeles WA (GS-07 Only) Not a telework eligible position, You may be expected to travel for this position up to 3 nights/month, Drivers license MAY be required.
Yosemite NP: Yosemite, CA Telework eligible position with supervisors approval, You may be expected to travel for this position up to 16 nights/month, Drivers license MAY be required.

• Lead Field crews to implement vegetation and ecological restoration project work.
• Make field observations of natural resource conditions. Record all data collected and ensure adequate quality control. Perform routine and recurring testing of collected samples.
• Utilize a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, and report data and other resource management information.
• Conduct routine resource monitoring programs for evaluating rare, threatened and endangered plant species, vegetation communities, population dynamics, ecosystem relationships, and public health/safety issues. Carry out a variety of field activities such as the plant surveys, control of non-native and invasive plant or insect species, revegetation, and enhancement of native plant populations.
• Utilize databases to enter and organize collected field data and uses standard statistical methods in the preparation of draft reports.
• Assist in preparing reports, plans, and guidelines. Maintain and organize computer databases.
• Install, operate, and maintain resource management equipment. Perform equipment inventories, evaluate quality assurance compliance, order and calibrate parts and equipment/supplies.
• Provide training to others involved in resource management projects and field research.

At the GS-07 level, in addition to duties listed above, you may:

• Assist staff in planning field research and resource monitoring programs. Schedule, coordinate and carry out a variety of field activities.
• Develop and using databases to enter, organize and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data using standard statistical methods.
• Provide work direction and guidance to lower graded technicians, volunteers, or YCC enrollees.
• Assist in preparing draft news releases and provide information to individuals, local organizations and schools.

At the GS-08 level, in addition to the duties listed above, you may:

• Coordinate the implementation of scientifically credible ecological restoration or vegetation projects
• Collect, maintain, summarize, and report on natural resource data in order to ensure highly credible data acquisition and reporting
• Provides advice, assistance, training to field crews, students, student conservation assistants, and volunteers involved in resource management projects and field research.
• Assist staff in planning field research and resource monitoring programs. Schedule, coordinate and carry out a variety of field activities.

OLYM NP only: Nursery work includes long hours of standing and performing repetitive tasks.

SEKI NP only: These positions involve forest management / monitoring in both front country and backcountry settings. Duties include tree hazard surveillance and forest pest management. Specific tasks include identification/evaluation of tree defects, tree measurements (i.e., dbh and height), record-keeping, mapping, and data entry into data-logger and/or computer.

MORA NP only: Train and Lead field crews in establishing and measuring whitebark pine monitoring plots in backcountry locations.

YOSE NP only: Serve as construction monitor for vegetation protection in new situations without well-established mitigations.

Klamath I&M Network only: These positions are for crew leads on our vegetation community monitoring and invasive species monitoring protocols. Crews work in remote, backcountry locations collecting long-term vegetation monitoring data.

Starting at $21.14 Per Hour (GS 6-8)
