The Specialist Healthcare Scientist in Cellular and Molecular Pathology acts in a specialised scientific role in the development and provision of a range of specialist tests for the diagnosis, monitoring and predictive profiling of patients with benign and malignant disorders. They act in a specialised scientific role to co-ordinate, analyse, interpret, and report (where appropriate) a range of specialist investigations conducted from within and outside of the department Part of a team responsible for the processing all the samples received each day, this includes performing a wide range of tests. KEY RESULT AREAS Whilst the organisation and structure within specialities/divisions may vary the specific remit of this role will include: Referrals, Booking and Clinic Prep - Booking follow-up appointments as requested by the clinical team if appropriate, including negotiation of dates with the patient and creating correspondence - Ensuring that any vacant slots are fully utilised and acted upon, including informing the Booking Office, to maximise capacity - Ensuring that arrangements are made that achieve the Trust targets and are reflected on IT systems in a timely manner Transcription - Preparing correspondence to patients, GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee following clinical attendance or other patient contacts as directed by the Administration Lead. Outcomes and Results -Highlighting to the clinical team members any results, correspondence or patient queries that need response and taking action Specialty Specific Support - Regularly informing the Administration Lead about progress and flagging up as a matter of urgency any issues, for example, capacity or delays due to internal or external factors, difficult queries from patients, etc - Diary management, including making appointments, booking meeting dates and venues, organising and distributing paperwork as required by the clinician or Administration Lead. - Supporting consultant staff with their additional responsibilities, such as clinical governance, Clinical Tutor role, etc. This may include setting up training days, teaching sessions, organising visitors, etc. - Liaising with external organisations for the benefit and progress of patient care, such as Social Services, other hospitals, etc

Job Summary The role of GP assistant may include some or all of these duties depending on the exprience and skills of the individual. Duties Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc. Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc Explaining treatment procedures to patients Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s) Support the GP with immunisations/wound care Confidentiality In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.
