The purpose of the job is to improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families and addressing inequalities, through the delivery of the healthy child programme and working as part of a skill mixed team. The postholder will undertake direct work to support and protect children, young people and their families/carers demonstrating learning in practice and consistently good performance in the first 3 years of qualification as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. The postholder will take part in high quality, reflective supervision including providing critical reflection, challenge and evidence informed decision making in complex situations, working closely with Advanced Practitioners, Team Leads and specialist practitioners to support establish and sustain a learning team culture. The postholder will provide support to less experienced team members including supervision for pre-registered nurses/midwives and supervising SCPHN students after 6 months post qualification. Direct casework with families: Develops an excellent understanding of the childs lived experience, conveying their views and feelings through high quality practice skills in assessment, planning, intervention and review. Gathers, analyses and reviews complex and/or contradictory information quickly and effectively, using it to reach informed professional decisions. Ensures the values and ethics of the profession in practice, adhering to NMC standards. Uses evidence-based practice to improve the childs welfare and safety, leading to improved outcomes, modelling the integration of research and current professional knowledge into daily practice. Models effective engagement and partnership working with children and young people, parents/carers and networks in challenging situations. Supports others to develop and maintain effective engagement, including in situations of hostility and risk. Supports and encourages professional decision making in others, identifying when more expert advice is needed. Maintains all records accurately and contemporaneously on SystmOne. Takes personal and professional responsibility for the quality of their own practice and that of supervisees. Supervision and support: Participates in reflective supervision. Supports less experienced colleagues and supervises student nurses to develop the knowledge and skills required to meet practice quality standards. Shares knowledge and skills across the team and models positive and constructive engagement in the learning organisation.Promote Learning: Takes part in team meetings, team-based action learning and development days, contributing to a positive and supportive team culture. Promotes, articulates, and supports a positive public health culture within the organisation and through external collaboration with colleagues. Accesses and utilises professional evidence-based practice from validated sources. Is committed to continuous professional development. Develops evidence-based practice skills using validated assessment tools.Teamwork: Develops and sustains excellent partnerships, working with other professionals involved with children and families, voluntary and community groups. Acts as a representative of the service with a high degree of professionalism at all times and promote confident and critical application of professional ethics. Advocates and promotes social justice, inclusion, and equality. Complies with the full range of the Councils employment relations policies. Fulfils all the requirements of registration with the NMC. Undertakes any other duties required of the role and commensurate to the grade for the role
