Construction Manager (Station Building)

Are you a hands on and established Construction Manager looking for a new challenge? If so then J.Murphy & Sons are keen to hear from you regarding an opportunity to lead, drive and direct the construction integration and specialised subcontractors on one of our Enhancements projects on the CP6 Framework.
We are recruiting for a Construction Manager to lead the construction of the Cambridge South Station buildings. This project comprises the construction of a new four platform railway station (including two station buildings) and associated infrastructure to provide a connection to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with destinations such as central London, Stansted Airport, Ely, and Birmingham.
You will be responsible for managing the construction of buildings and platforms ensuring in accordance with the requirements below:
What you will be doing:
- Provide coordination/integration management of supply chain and subcontractor design, i.e. fabricators, manufacturers, specialist trades, fitout contractors, mechanical and electrical plant and SISS.
- Provide construction management input to the Station building works, particularly advice regarding construction/ implementation/ sequence/ programme review meetings, and any other as advised.
- Co-ordination of constructability planning and collaboration prior to implementation.
- Liaise with the Project Managers to ensure that the construction resources are appropriate size and particular site requirements/criteria are catered for each specialist sub-contractor.
- Support project manager with management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
- Overall performance management of subcontractors.
- Ensures that the construction and installation teams are accountable for their performance against agreed schedules and man-hour budgets.
- Support engineering team to ensures that all construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
- Ensures that all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with agreed quality procedures.
- Interfaces with all other functional leaders within the organisation to facilitate successful development of the project from solution stage constructability through construction, installation, commissioning and handover to the client.
- Ensure regular input from the Project Manager is gained on third party, environmental and public relations issues.
- Participate in, and positively promote, the Murphy Culture Development Culture (leading to Zero Harm)
Who we are looking for:
- Demonstrable construction management experience on complex building projects
- Experience managing construction of structural steelwork, precast concrete, fit-out, MEPH, SISS and external envelope/cladding
- Preference to have experience on railway projects and/or stations (but this is not compulsory for the role)
- Experience coordinating sub-contractor designs and programme of works
- Confident in reviewing and preparing paperwork to implement works ie work package plans, task briefing sheets, quality plans and permits to work
- Proven ability to lead teams and coach on performance
- Confident in setting operatives, sub-contractors to work and overseeing performance
- Understanding of SHEQ requirements and the up-to-date legislation
