The job role

This opportunity is all about providing a business focused HR service across a range of sites in the West Country, Staffordshire and Yorkshire. About 25% of the role involves travel outside of Cornwall otherwise you will be based in our Par Head Office. The job role



You’ll be hands on, working with the team on the full operation of the main tube press, as well as across a variety of process systems such as pumping, drier and wet scrubber, vacuum and air systems.



The more common activities include, but are not limited to:



Handling machinery such as heat exchangers, pumps and overhead cranes

Undertaking minor semi-skilled engineering tasks using a selection of hand and power tools

Providing cover for the Operative within the wet stock department, which involves maintaining “wet stocks” and the incoming quality and conditioning of the “wet feed” and undertaking clay sampling.

The job role:

As a Mobile Plant Operative you will be responsible for operating a Rigid Dump Truck, ensuring all equipment is operated in a safe and efficient manner, in order to maximise the tonnes moved per shift.

In addition, you’ll

• Ensure that excavation and tipping areas are well maintained, following local site rules and local traffic management plans
• Be operating the equipment at maximum productivity and minimum waiting time
• Carry out equipment safety checks at the beginning of each shift

This role is working a 12-hour shift over a two-week rotation period, working days only.

We are looking for someone who has preferably worked within a Quarry or Agricultural environment. This is busy, so timekeeping, having a flexible approach and attention to detail is key!

Imerys British Lithium (IBL) is a joint venture between Imerys S.A. and Lithium Assets Ltd., formerly British Lithium, developing a world class micaceous lithium resource in Cornwall. IBL have developed unique, patented technology for the sustainable recovery of battery grade lithium carbonate from micaceous granite, with the goal of building the world’s first integrated lithium mine, beneficiation plant and refinery producing 20,000tpa of lithium carbonate – enough to support production in the UK of 350,000 electric vehicles per year.

What we are looking for:

Attention to detail and being organised is key in this role! You will have experience of working as a payroll professional, having previously worked within a busy, fast-paced environment. It is advantageous if you have a qualification in Payroll, however not essential, as experience is key!

The role:

Your main responsibilities are to carry out planned, scheduled, routine and reactive mechanical maintenance including fault finding /diagnostics and rectification work to the processing fixed plant on Refining sites within the central Cornwall area.

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will also be involved in the installation of new equipment, process improvement, and other engineering works in line with project, continuous improvement and maintenance requirements.

Your main responsibilities:

• To deliver an effective quality service in compliance with all current health, safety and environmental legislation and company Rules Guidance and Procedures whilst meeting the required tonnage, quality and production targets and the following;
• Carry out effective repairs and maintenance whilst working safely, abiding by all Imerys Safe Working Rules, Procedures & Guidance and in accordance where necessary within Local Management Rules.
• Ensure effective compliance with all current workplace legislation whilst maintaining ISO9001: Quality Standard and ISO14001 Environmental Standards.

• Providing engineering support for other maintenance & installation activities.

What we ask you in return:

• Mechanical fitting knowledge in industrial applications / processes
• NVQ 3 or equivalent in mechanical or similar engineering trade (or willingness to achieve this with the correct previous experience).
• Knowledge of pumping, pipework systems and other process equipment
• Ideally experienced in industrial operations for at least 3 years.
• MMA welding competency (training will be given)
• Electrical competency would be an advantage
• LGV Class C licence would be an advantage
• Have a good working knowledge of the Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations and Quarry Regulations.

Engineering Apprentice

Location: St Austell and surrounding areas and Lee Moor, Plympton

Hours of work: 37.5 hours a week, typically working Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours a day, between the hours of 7am to 3:30pm

The apprenticeship follows the Mechatronics standard, which is a combination of mechanical and electrical engineering. Starting in September 2024, this apprenticeship will be delivered over a 36-month duration, consisting of a combination of attendance at college along with work-based learning, in order to gain practical skills and experience. Being exposed to a variety of engineering disciplines, you will be provided with the knowledge on how to maintain productivity of a busy Industrial Plant, whilst always working safely and adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines.

The joined venture between Imerys and British Lithium:

Imerys British Lithium (IBL) is a joint venture between Imerys S.A. and Lithium Assets Ltd., formerly British Lithium, developing a world class micaceous lithium resource in Cornwall. IBL have developed unique, patented technology for the sustainable recovery of battery grade lithium carbonate from micaceous granite, with the goal of building the world’s first integrated lithium mine, beneficiation plant and refinery producing 20,000tpa of lithium carbonate – enough to support production in the UK of 350,000 electric vehicles per year.


The role: Your role is to lead the development, scale-up and design of Imerys British Lithium's novel process technologies for extracting lithium from micaceous granites. You are responsible for the successful integration of beneficiation process technologies into the process design for the British Lithium Project.


You will also be involved in leading dialogue with external parties, design engineers, and project stakeholders in defining, specifying and de-risking the process technology that will deliver lithium carbonate product to the market.


Your main responsibilities: You will lead the process development, scale-up and de-risking of the comminution and beneficiation process technologies and operating conditions as they are transferred through to commercial implementation whilst;

• Leading the Beneficiation team of metallurgists, including resource planning, coaching and developing, planning and organising work programmes, facilitating change and driving execution.
• Managing the deliverables of the Beneficiation team, including bench scale test work, pilot scale trials, pilot plant optimisation, process data management, technical risk management and technical reporting.
• Having ownership of the Comminution and Beneficiation (CAB) process from kilogramme to commercial scale, leveraging internal expertise and that of third-party equipment / technology suppliers.
• Having ownership of the Beneficiation section of the Pilot Plant process and the sample preparation area. This includes ensuring safe operation of fixed plant, management of improvement capital requests to support the Technical Development Programme and accountability for pilot plant metallurgical performance.
• Being the key process technology expert for mineral processing technologies. Regular input to business decision making in the presence of company Directors and senior stakeholders. Requires timely preparation and delivery of compelling and robust reports & presentations.
• Contributing to the development of the Technical Development Programme, providing a programme of bench scale, pilot and vendor trials for workflow planning and budget setting.

What we ask you in return:

• Tertiary qualification in mineral, process or metallurgical engineering
• Experience in common process simulation softwares, such as MetSIM, JK SimMet or SysCAD.
• Experience in the scale-up of minerals process technologies within a mining environment. Experience with Lithium chemistries advantageous.
• Experience in scaling process technology from bench to commercial scales.
