Senior Electrical or Mechanical Design Engineer - Up to £65,000 plus Benefits
The company
In this exciting new opportunity, you will be working for an organisation new to Ely with offices in Ipswich as well. Being part of this team will give you a chance to work on different projects, such as residential and commercial, as well as bespoke design within Building Services. You will get the opportunity to work closely with a director who has over 20 years of experience within the industry.
Your role
In this role, you will know how to use Auto CAD in design or relevant software, either in the mechanical or electrical field. You will be able to design new engineering products and processes. Analyse prototype data and retest if needed. You will be able to research new product ideas and methods. Improve existing products and processes. With design and installing controls for systems like heating, ventilation, and lighting. You will be ensuring compliance with the industry's safety standards. Also, you will be maintaining accurate records of results found as well as records surrounding your design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, installation, operation, and monitoring of technical services in buildings, including HVAC engineering, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, to ensure safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly operation. They will ensure that business, client, and end-user needs are considered and work within financial and safety constraints. Senior Quantity Surveyor required to work on one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK based out of the Peterborough area. As part of the role you will manage a team of multi-discipline contractors, multi-disciplined supply chain and encourage collaboration and innovation to be industry leading in commercial management.
Main responsibilities include:

• Achieve the appropriate commercial result for projects through the provision of accurate financial reporting.
• Build and maintain working relationships with the supply chain and clients.
• Manage subcontractor supplier accounts, financially and contractually. Monitor subcontractors against the programme. Negotiate final accounts.
• Develop, manage, and coordinate the procurement schedule.

• Experience in pre- and post-contract experience in a construction commercial management role working on major projects.
• Experience administering NEC form of contract.
• Degree or demonstrable suitable commercial management experience
• Strong understanding of modern Civil Engineering techniques, plant and equipment and an appreciation of logistical needs/issues.
• Appreciations of the impact of cost on the completion of a programme and development of a construction solutions.

Your new role
As one of the stakeholders within the Anglian Water framework, they provide both design and construction services across the whole of Anglian Water's region, which is the largest by geographic area in the UK, stretching across Lincolnshire and East Anglia. Work is mainly focussed on clean water infrastructure (water mains), but also includes wastewater infrastructure and both water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects, such as treatment works and pumping stations.

They are now looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team, reporting into the Commercial Manager for the commercial and cost management of a project or programme of projects from inception through to close out. You will be commercially conscious to the delivery team, providing commercial support to both the delivery management and on-site delivery teams.
Responsibility to ensure that operations are carried out to control costs, maximising value, minimising future liabilities and maintaining the required standard of quality and safety.
Working as part of a delivery team providing commercial challenge and recommending actions to achieve and create an environment of out performance.
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, some of the key duties include:

• Assist the programme area estimating team to ensure robust estimates are provided that align to scope and make allowance for risks and opportunities including any necessary analysis, transfer of data to procurement system and cost base.
• Subcontracts are properly prepared & reflect agreed scope. Subcontracts are properly managed in accordance with contract requirements including compliance with all responses to communications, payments, early warnings, compensation events, programme submissions etc., that all contract files are maintained & kept up to date.
• Work closely with the procurement team, Construction Manager and Project Delivery Manager to develop & monitor procurement strategy.
• Work closely with the site team attending site regularly to ensure they are aware of and can manage the allowances and outputs, provide robust challenge to achieve outperformance, communicate change control and escalate when necessary.
• Accurate live forecasting taking into account the programme and reporting in accordance with the respective work breakdown structure / cost breakdown structure.
• Actual costs are monitored and assessed against baseline, value of work done, solution cost progress, affordability challenges and final outturn calculations, reporting either weekly or otherwise as agreed with the Commercial Manager.
• Provide reports on actual costs vs. estimate & identifying underlying reasons for any variance & resolutions, in particular highlight, challenge & resolve variance to latest plans.
• Work with the delivery team to assist with project and programme risk mitigation plans are considered, put in place and administered.
• Ensure that the Framework Contract is properly administered, including timely issue of early warnings.
• Any inadmissible costs are not included within the project/programme of project costs.
• Final accounts are prepared timely and accurately.

The candidate must have a proven and demonstrable track record in their discipline, an accredited honours degree, and be working towards IEng or CEng status. They must also have an interest in or experience using digital and parametric design tools.
