The Opportunity…
Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. Its delivery will be reliant not only on innovative engineering and construction but also on the strongest of Leadership qualities amongst its Senior Project Managers. The role is to provide leadership to ensure the effective delivery of the Civils Programme of HPC, whilst recognising and managing the impacts of the programme on the wider Project.
As our next Senior Project Manager working specifically within the vibrant Balance of Plant (BoP) team, you'll take charge of ensuring the seamless delivery of engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities throughout the entire contract or work package lifecycle, aligning meticulously with the overarching project schedule.
In this position, you will play a pivotal role in demonstrating high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the planning and execution phases, ensuring a comprehensive fulfilment of project requirements. Reporting directly to our Delivery Manager, you'll enhance your leadership skills by supporting a team in taking charge of the entire life cycle delivery of major contracts assigned to you.

What you’ll be doing…
As our next Senior Project Manager, your commitment extends to securing vital resources, maintaining SQEP standards, and swiftly addressing personnel shortfalls or issues within your project team. By developing and executing effective strategies in alignment with the overarching Programme Execution Plan (PEP), you set the stage for the seamless management, organization, and execution of the program. Effective communication with stakeholders is at the core of your responsibilities, ensuring the successful execution of project or PEP strategies within your designated contract or package.
Other roles and responsibilities also include:
- Drive the delivery of contract activities, ensuring they are safe, timely, and within budget, meeting business and technical requirements. Monitor progress against milestones, deadlines, and budget, providing key stakeholders with insightful reports.
- Anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within your contract or package, identifying risks, facilitating resolutions, and updating the program budget.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of schedules for the contract or package, aligning them with overall project schedules. Escalate discrepancies to the Project Controls Director.
- Guarantee the delivery of Contractual Milestones and List of Deliverables (LOD) related to the scope of work.
- Apply the principles of Earned Value Management (EVM) and champion Continuous Improvement principles.
- Cultivate a culture of lessons learned and knowledge capture as part of our everyday business practices.
- Interface with other programs to ensure a high-level view of the total project's progress and identify opportunities for adopting best practices.
- Assure the fulfilment of contractual requirements within your assigned contract or package.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the project team.
Who you are…
In this role, we’re looking for you to demonstrate a track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
With this, your management of developing engineering design, contract and field execution strategies for project delivery, Multi-discipline EPCM projects, Procurement and management of complex contracts, Control of costs / risks will be paramount in this role. Other requirements for this role also include:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Leadership and its application in complex projects. This, in turn, should link with holding excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
- Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.
- Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment. Including NEC and FIDIC contracts.
Previous experience of working within a civils background and experience of working in construction within a nuclear setting would be desirable however, not essential. We’re looking for you to demonstrate your quality of delivery and have a “right first time” approach to your work.
