The purpose of the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) is to provide patients with a high-quality, cost-effective service, and ensure the longer-term sustainability of NHS pathology services in east and south east London.



We are a new organisation, jointly owned by Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Clinical Biochemistry laboratories are equipped with Cobas 8000(Roche diagnostics) instruments, which are integrated with automated workflow solution.



The specialist clinical chemistry work areas based at RLH are equipped with D-100 (Biorad Laboratories), Ultimate 3000 (Thermo Scientific), Acquity UPLC (Waters), AAnalyst 800 (Perkin Elmer), Indiko Plus (Thermo Scientific), Capillarys (Sebia), Hydrasys (Sebia), Xevo TQ-S micro LCMS (Waters) and Optilite (Binding site).



We are looking for Associate Practitioners to join the Clinical Biochemistry teams located across the partnership laboratories. Successful candidates will be placed at a ‘base’ laboratory but work flexibly across different teams and partnered laboratories.

Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Women’s Health specialist to join the Therapies team within Barts Health Trust. The post holder will be a qualified Physiotherapist, with at least 18 months experience within the physiotherapy specialty. They should be registered with the HPC, have completed at least one specialist Women’s Health rotation, and have completed one Musculoskeletal rotation at a Band 5 or Band 6 level. They should have excellent baseline knowledge of Obstetrics and Gynecological conditions and physiotherapy management, and have experience of treating a variety of Women’s Health inpatients and outpatients. Our NEPTS is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. Thoracic surgery is currently delivered by a team of 5 full-time consultants, 6 registrars, and junior clinical fellows, with a separate thoracic surgery ward and high dependency unit.



We are looking for registrars who will be post-CCT in August 2024 with senior thoracic surgery experience who are motivated and enthusiastic and wish to develop a sub-specialty interest in robotic thoracic surgery. In addition to your clinical duties providing care to thoracic surgery patients, managing referrals and attending the operating theatre, you will also be attending regular multidisciplinary meetings, participating in the weekly educational programme.

In addition to this you will be expected to contribute to the departmental research program including into robotic surgery as the Thorax centre has the largest robotic thoracic surgery practice in the UK. Time will be given for training and professional development.

The applicants must have full GMC registration with a license to practice and possess FRCS/MRCS or equivalent.

We are recruiting for experienced band 6 nurses with a post graduate qualification in critical care to join RCN Team of the Year 2021 Winners, Adult Critical Care Unit at the Royal London Hospital.

We are very much on the frontline in London’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and are rapidly expanding our critical care capacity in response to demand in the capital. Our additional capacity will allow us support the backlog of complex surgical patients awaiting elective surgery alongside our trauma and emergency patients whilst continuing to care for patients suffering from Covid-19 and our staff will rotate in their teams across all of our critical care areas.

As the UK’s largest trauma centre our ACCU unit leads the trauma network for North East London and Essex. It is a leading specialist centre with an international reputation for caring for some of the most seriously injured patients in London and beyond. In addition to trauma the Royal London Hospital also provides specialist care in neurosciences, a hyper-acute stroke centre, and acute general medical, along with surgical and obstetric services.

Working within a highly skilled, dynamic multi-disciplinary team, in our busy 60 bedded Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU), which accommodates both level 3 and level 2 patients. As part of Team Surgery, you will work closely as part of a triumvirate to deliver high quality, efficient and forward thinking services across The Royal London and Mile End Hospitals. You will be operationally responsible for managing our adult theatres complex, supporting the daily patient flow of patients through our elective care footprint. The Associate Deputy DDO is a key management role and is responsible for the operational delivery of all aspects of the service areas. Key aims are:

• To co-ordinate the operational delivery of services within the portfolio of responsibility to ensure the safe and effective use of all resources. Specifically, to take a lead in achieving key performance targets in line with local and national agreements.

• In partnership with the Clinical Directors, Service Group leads, and Deputy DDO take operational management responsibility - with the specialty Lead Clinicians, Nurses, Operational Managers within the Peri op and Critical Care Directorate for the delivery of the Division’s financial and operational priorities.

• Provide timely, efficient and effective operational service management support for the specialties of Theatres, Scheduling, 3D and Day Surgery.

• Operationally lead the Scheduling team supporting the Associate Service Manager with key relationships across all divisions that have elective patients.

• Deputise for the Deputy DDO, acting with delegated authority as granted to lead on tasks and in key meetings. Support the wider directorate under the direction of the Deputy DDO.

• Support the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians, Divisional Director of Operations and Deputy DDO’s to ensure that the services are responsive, innovative and provide the highest possible clinical and performance standards.
