Senior Pharmacy Education and Training Pharmacy Technician / Production Technician for Aseptic Services

An exciting opportunity has come up for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work as Senior Pharmacy Education and Training Technician / Production Technician for Aseptic Services within the training department at Bart’s Health NHS Trust, Pharmacy Technical Services (PTS).

PTS is a licensed manufacturing unit with three sites, Royal London Hospital which is based at Whitechapel, St. Barts Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for the training and supervision of SMT trainees and rotational staff within the production areas. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all training documentation is current and updated in a timely manner in line with MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) audits and internal reviews.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bart’s Health based primarily at our Royal London and St Bartholomews Hospital sites for the role of Medical Education Manager (12 months Maternity Cover). We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic person with medical education experience and who is able to work on their own initiative but also be a team player.

The role involves working closely with the Director of Medical Education (DME),Deputy Directors of Medical Education ( DDME’s) Education Leads and the Education Academy Senior Team to ensure the Trust meets its contractual requirements and maintains a supportive learning environment for medical students and doctors in training. To work with the Divisions to identify local leads with a responsibility to deliver local Induction for all junior medical staff.
To manage the relationships with internal personnel associated with the training of medical students and postgraduate doctors; this includes the College Tutors, Divisional Managers, Educational Supervisors and Clinical Supervisors and Clinical Leads.

To manage the relationships with external personnel associated with the training of medical students and postgraduate doctors; this includes the Commissioners, the Foundation School, Royal Colleges, the GMC and the providers of commissioned programmes.

To manage appropriate points of contact and support for medical students and postgraduate doctors which are clearly signposted. To deal with sensitive and confidential information and queries/issues in a timely and effective manner to improve situations which impact of the trainees/students learning.

Staff Management and Leadership

To provide supervision and line management of the administrative staff at the site – including overall supervision, quality and performance, leave, appraisal and personal development and disciplinary matters.

The post holder will ensure all aspects of the Department run efficiently and effectively, including participation in the recruitment, selection and induction of the Administration staff, including temporary cover.

To manage the training and development of staff to ensure that cover is available for all areas; liaising with the other site MEMs and the Education Academy Team to enable cross site cover as and when required.

Educational Governance

Working closely with the DME and Risk Managers ensure that SI reporting is appropriately recorded at a Trust level and to the Postgraduate Dean.
Responsible for ensuring all training posts are notified of working with the Educational Leads ensure that the Trust maintains a high level of response rate to the GMC National Surveys. Responsible for circulation of the GMC NTS results and working with the Educational Leads and trainee to put together appropriate SMART action plans.

To ensure the Site supports the quality assurance processes of the Commissioners, including Annual Quality Visits, regulatory visits and visits of concern and any follow up action as required.

Responsible for managing and maintaining a database for all trainers on site and to liaise with appropriate teams for updates and reports as required. Working closely with the DME to ensure the site meets the requirements of the GMC Standard for Recognition and Accreditation of Trainers.

In liaison with the Education Academy Team and DME to provide training activities for faculty development, ensuring that external training provision is made available to faculty.

Meetings and committees

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective management of the annual programme of meetings, including timely distribution of papers.

To attend the MEM Senior Team Meetings and ensure regular local team meetings take place in order to disseminate information and pick up questions from the team.

Where appropriate to represent the Trust at external meeting and groups and to bring back key messages for dissemination to the wider team.


Responsibility for Patient care

Overall there will only be occasional incidental contact with patients, except when supporting the clinical teaching examinations for students and postgraduate doctors, which may involve patients.


Physical and Financial Resources

Manage the budget allocation for the Site and medical education programme activity, ensuring that suitable education and training resources and facilities are available to deliver the programmes


General Responsibilities

Guided by standard procedures, good practice and understands the standards and results that are to be achieved.

We are seeking to appoint to work within the diabetes and endocrinology team. The post would be divided 60/40 into clinical service and educational work. The Endocrinology department at Newham Hospital is well established and highly regarded. The post holder will participate in one consultant supervised outpatient endocrinology clinic per week and one consultant supervised outpatient antenatal diabetes clinic per week. These clinics can include a tertiary endocrinology clinic at St Bartholomew’s hospital.

The post-holder will be required, with support from other training lead, to efficiently manage the training and competency assessment of new and current Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and MLA staff in Blood Sciences, be responsible for the documentation and management of electronic training records. Be responsible for the implementation of training programs for all grades of staff in including Specialist registrars, STP and HSST students and apprentices.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic member of staff to join our team in Medical & Dental Education working mainly at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in West Smithfield and jointly with the team at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London.
The role involves working closely with trainee doctors, educational and clinical supervisors, education leads and external organisations and regulators such as Health Education England, to ensure education and training is of a high quality and meets GMC (General Medical Council) standards. The post holder will work with the wider team to ensure our doctors are able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the competencies necessary to complete their training programme.

The post is responsible for providing the development of administrative systems and functions to support the delivery of education and training for medical students, junior doctors in training and consultant supervisors at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, to meet Trust and regulators requirements and in line with contractual agreements with our educational commissioners.
The post covers a range of activities including the co-ordination and delivery of monthly junior doctors’ corporate and international medical graduate inductions, local faculty groups, committees, courses, examinations, and educational events, for both Postgraduate and Undergraduate training programmes.

The job holder will support the Director of Medical Education in delivering various Postgraduate and Undergraduate improvement projects and work streams. This will include: -

§ attendance at internal and external meetings, supporting both Undergraduate medical students, Postgraduate trainees, Physician Associate students and Trust grade and SAS doctors

§ supporting the site Director of Medical Education, Deputy Directors of Medical Education, Foundation Programme Director and Undergraduate Associate Dean

§ supporting the Simulation and Clinical Skills Unit on site as required

§ supporting site based educational activities, such as local Induction, Local Faculty Groups, OSCEs etc.

§ To administer the Relocation application process for Royal London and St Bartholomew’s hospitals.

The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need with increasing numbers of students and trainees and commitment to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. The successful candidate will work in the Women and Children’s division at NUH, which is part of the Barts Health NHS Trust; one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.

To be considered for the post, you must have full GMC Registration and it is desirable to hold MRCPCH or equivalent. You should have appropriate training and experience in general paediatrics and neonatology.

The Paediatric rainbow centre is a very busy department and looks after deprived and young paediatric population. It is a 21 bedded Paediatrics ward which includes 7 cubicles, two bedded well equipped HDU unit. It also has 6 bedded day care ward for minor day surgery for children over 3 years of age. The department also has 6 bedded observational unit and has 23 beds including 2 intensive, 4 HDU care beds.

The Level II Neonatal unit cares for babies born at more than 27 weeks. We work collaboratively as part of a network with the tertiary unit at the Royal London Hospital. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage their workload in an organised manner as well as work well under pressure. Teaching

Department is actively involved in teaching medical students from Barts and London University , 6-8, 4thyear medical students coming for 6 weeks. The post-holder must be a senior clinical fellow with interests, clinical skills and knowledge in high-risk obstetrics. The primary clinical work area will be ambulatory obstetrics – high-risk maternity triage and the antenatal ward setting. The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to need with increasing numbers of students and trainees. There is a real need to ensure that students receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. Emergency Medicine (EM) lends itself to simulation training with many patients managed by large teams with complex medical problems. The Professor in Emergency Medicine has a recognised interest in focused ultrasound, resuscitation, procedural sedation and advanced airway care.

The successful candidate will be integral in the role out of simulation based training in these areas. In line with our Education Strategy, we intend to improve education by building a Trainee Teaching Faculty made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training and drive forward our distributive simulation strategy.

The post is for one year and the core remit will be to support different modalities in Education for the undergraduate and post graduate medical trainees that are based within the Emergency Department. They would also be involved with team based simulation training both within the department and formerly within the Simulation Centres. The successful applicant will be expected to assist Clinical Skills and Simulation for both under and post-graduates across Barts Health. All fellows joining our team will be invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme. All our fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract from August 2024. The successful applicant will get support and development in this role from the Education Team as well as having a named supervisor in the Emergency Department. The post would typically suit anyone just about to start specialist training or those wishing to undertake further training in medical education as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their training programme. Prior agreement must be sought with the relevant Specialty Training Committee (STC). The post will be 40% education commitment and 60% clinically rota duties within the Emergency Department.
