Vehicle Technician RAF MolesworthPermanent, Full time, 39 hours per week

Serco have a great opportunity for a Vehicle Technician to join the team at RAF Molesworth.
As the Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for the service and repair of Government Owned Vehicles (GOV). Reporting directly to the Vehicle Management Supervisor, you will be part of a team who provide accident and breakdown cover on a 24/7 basis.
Also in this role, you will be part of the emergency call out roster which is approximately 1 week in 3.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Repair and maintain a fleet of 131 Vehicles
- 90% of the vehicles are U.S Spec and Left-hand drive.
- Range of Vehicles:
- HGV 6x4 Tractor
- HGV Trailers
- U.S Spec Fire Trucks
- U.S Spec Police Cars
- U.S Spec 8 Pax Vans
- Various U.S & U.K Spec cars
- Various forklifts
- Repair and maintain a varied range of equipment (including tail lifts, generators etc).
- Ensure that all repairs are carried out in accordance with Air Force Instructions and the Ministry of Transport Regulations.
- Ensuring vehicles are maintained in accordance with the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency.
- Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles presented
- Identify vehicle faults and repair as necessary
- Ensure all brake tests are completed as required
- Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices.
- Conduct vehicle test drives after repairs have been completed to verify the vehicle is roadworthy
- Ensure all workshop equipment is serviceable, tested and correctly maintained
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Ensure the workshop is kept clean and well organised to ensure workplace safety
- Ensuing all spares and equipment are fully accounted for
- Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles
- Highlight to supervisor all vehicle defects, including damage where the driver has contributed to the failure of the component or damage to the vehicle
- Demonstrate process of preventative maintenance and visual inspections to the driver and management community
- Follow company safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, working at height, etc.
- Work outside of normal working hours when operationally required.
- Refuel, wash and vacuum vehicle(s) when required.
- Perform driving duties when required by the VM Supervisor or Site Manager.
- Drive vehicles safely and show due consideration to other road users.
- Ensure driving skills maximise fuel efficiency and minimise risk to self, vehicle,and other road users.
- Any other contractual duties as required by the VM Supervisor or Site Manager.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Must have a full clean UK Driving License
- NVQ Level 3 Maintenance Qualification or Equivalent
- Diagnostic experience
- Tyre changing and balancing
- Inspect and repair to MOT standards
- Drivers Certificate or Professional Competence [CPC]
Desirable:
- Mobile Air Conditioning Qualification
- HGV licence
- Experience in roadside recovery + trailer (+E)
- Forklift license
- Environmental & Hazardous Waste in workshop
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate Security Clearance
