This is an exciting role within PNDC that will be responsible for the development and delivery of a cutting-edge innovation projects in the area of future network assets. The post-holder will focus on laboratory-based testing and de-risking of new solutions and innovations while working with PNDC’s industrial partners.

To be considered for the role, you will:

· Possess the knowledge, skills and experience normally associated with a PhD in a relevant field or you will be educated to Honours Degree level with relevant industrial experience

· Have experience in asset management practices, data analysis and analytics.

· Have experience of the delivery of research and development projects in collaboration with industry or within an industrial context.

· Have hands on experience in liaising with clients to develop test plans, managing lab based testing projects, data capture, data analysis and compiling technical reports for industrial stakeholders.

· Demonstrate excellent technical writing ability and strong communication skills.

· Be a self-starter, and be able to plan, conduct and co-ordinate research and knowledge exchange activities with minimal supervision, as well as generate new ideas and concepts, with the capacity to work in a dynamically changing team environment.

About PNDC

Established in 2013 as one of the University of Strathclyde’s industry-facing innovation centres, PNDC is a world-class whole energy systems innovation, test and demonstration environment across multiple locations, shaping the energy transition through its leading-edge programme of work. The facilities and capabilities offered by PNDC are unique in Europe, attracting global organisations to partner with us in our combined efforts to accelerate the deployment of innovations across the whole energy system.

PNDC continues to evolve its capabilities in the established facility located in Cumbernauld and support innovation in advancing power networks and accelerating the decarbonisation of heat and transport. PNDC is investing over £20m in new capabilities with a particular focus on decarbonisation of heat and transport, and will launch a second testing facility in 2023.

The PNDC innovation programme covers three main focus areas: Advancement of Power Networks, Decarbonisation of Heat, and Decarbonisation of Transport. The programme includes a number of innovation themes within each area as well as whole energy system innovation across power networks, heat and transport.

Advancement of Power Networks concentrates primarily on accelerating and de-risking innovations that support the major changes in electricity generation and demand characteristics resulting from the net zero transition. Particular focus is placed on solutions that increase power system robustness and security, support the digitalisation of the entire power network sector, and those that facilitate the greater flexibility and participation of demand side innovations in the energy transition.

Decarbonisation of Heat concentrates primarily on accelerating and de-risking novel low carbon heating solutions, both at large scale (e.g. zero-carbon CHP, district heating schemes, hydrogen-for-heating) and at smaller scale addressing the domestic/small commercial scale markets (e.g. heat pumps, hydrogen boilers, solar thermal). Particular focus is also placed on the integration of novel low carbon heating technologies into the wider energy system, their control and scheduling, and the impact of consumer behaviour on technology deployment.

Decarbonisation of Transport concentrates primarily on accelerating and de-risking novel low carbon transport systems for land, marine and aero transport sectors. This covers both innovations in vehicle charging infrastructure and innovations in on board systems. Particular focus is placed on new electric drive trains and on board power systems, including a number of new components such as fuel cells, batteries, and power electronic machine and drive components.

What you’ll be doing:

• Deliver scientific excellence in accordance with ISO17025 and ISO9001 quality accredited procedures.
• Work from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to identify and diagnose pathogens and pests, using a range of methods including, but not limited to, microscopy, ELISA and PCR.
• Data entry and validation
• Carry out general laboratory duties e.g. glassware washing, cleaning and tidying
• Complete laboratory documentation with test results.
• Help to clean and maintain facilities and equipment.
• Have the opportunity to assist other teams throughout the programme

What we’re looking for:

• Ideally, qualifications in a science subject, preferably a biology discipline or equivalent experience
• Experience of working in a laboratory is desirable, but not essential and we can teach you!
• A methodical approach to work and attention to detail is key.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions efficiently within regulated environments.
• Practical IT experience, in particular Microsoft Office applications.

We are now recruiting for Explainers to join our Learning Team based at the National Railway Museum in York. There are both full-time (36 hours per week) and part-time (18 hours per week) roles available and shifts will be on a 4-week rolling rota which includes regular weekend working.

About the role

As an Explainer you will provide live interpretation in the museum galleries for all our visitors. You will deliver a wide-ranging and creative programme of activities and events for diverse audiences including schools, families, adults and community groups. You will reveal the wonder of science by telling authentic stories about our collection and facilitating and supporting the learning of children and adults.

Your role is to engage with visitors and help them learn from our exhibits and collection. You will support with and deliver all learning activities inside the Wonderlab Gallery, an interactive space that encourages and inspires our visitors to investigate with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

We provide opportunities for you to develop your skills through on-the-job training programmes in order to support you in delivering high quality learning experiences that are memorable and engaging for our large and diverse audiences.

This academic year, we have four groups of students who are studying Computer Science in years 10 and 11, using the OCR J277 specification. About the role
This is great opportunity if you are keen to start a career in Project Management, particularly within Construction; Facilities Management or Buildings Management.

You will ensure that Capital projects are undertaken in line with Project Management best practice, through engagement of relevant stakeholders and in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance.

You'll co-ordinate effective financial and administration management of projects through their full life cycle and will oversee all contractor and documentation including tenders, surveys, reports, and statutory records.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Senior Science Technician to join our science department at Kings Priory School. We welcome applications from existing school-based science technicians and those who have relevant laboratory-based experience. As a key member of our Science Faculty, which has 9 members of staff, you will be skilled at ensuring that requested practical materials are delivered on time and support the delivery of wider resources within the lab. You will also need to provide practical support in the classroom to teachers and students. In addition, as part of your role, you will oversee and coordinate the work of one other part-time science technician (currently on maternity leave).
