Important duties at the GS-06 level, include:

• Lead field crews to implement vegetation and ecological restoration project work.
• Controlling invasive exotic plants using a variety of herbicides as well as manual-mechanical methods.
• Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of restoration, re-vegetation, and long-term monitoring projects for front country and wilderness restoration programs.
• Using GPS to map vegetation and other features.
• Identifying vascular plants to species level using dichotomous keys.
• Leading volunteers.
• Photo documentation of projects.
• Using a variety of computer programs including Geographic Information System (GIS) software to compile, and report data and other resource management information.
• Compiling and presenting educational programs to staff, volunteers and the public.
• Assist in preparing reports, plans, and guidelines. Maintain and organize computer databases.
• Install, operate, and maintain resource management equipment. Perform equipment inventories, evaluate quality assurance compliance, order and calibrate parts and equipment/supplies.
• Provide training to others involved in resource management projects and field research.

• Assist staff in planning field research and resource monitoring programs. Schedule, coordinate and carry out a variety of field activities.
• Develop and using databases to enter, organize and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data using standard statistical methods.
• Provide work direction and guidance to lower graded technicians, volunteers, or YCC enrollees.
• Assist in preparing draft news releases and provide information to individuals, local organizations and schools.

• Coordinate the implementation of scientifically credible ecological restoration or vegetation projects
• Collect, maintain, summarize, and report on natural resource data in order to ensure highly credible data acquisition and reporting
• Provides advice, assistance, training to field crews, students, student conservation assistants, and volunteers involved in resource management projects and field research.
• Assist staff in planning field research and resource monitoring programs. Schedule, coordinate and carry out a variety of field activities.

• Guides or supports the development of computational materials modeling to describe thermal protection materials performance in mission relevant environments and inform on thermal protection materials selection.
• Guides or supports the development of computational materials modeling to describe composite materials performance in mission relevant environments and inform on material architecture selection.
• Coordinates or participates in meetings and briefings, as necessary, develop technical reports as requested by projects.
• Contributes to or leads proposal efforts and interacts for the Agency with private industry and other government entities.
• Assists in identifying areas of focus for future computational materials modeling development programs.
