Assistant Professor (tenure track) Positions in Climate Science
The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore seeks to appoint one Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Climate Science. About the Opportunity

Summary

The School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University seeks applications for the 2024-25 Design Research and Teaching Fellowship, a one-year visiting appointment that provides emerging scholars, practitioners, and advocates of the built environment with the opportunity to develop a body of design research based on a specific area of interest while contributing to the vibrant intellectual culture of the school. The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor and is scheduled to commence in August, 2024.

The fellowship supports teaching related to the candidate’s area of interest, as well as modest resources for the development of independent research and creative work. Fellows will have the opportunity to design new curricula for studio and seminar courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as to teach within the School of Architecture’s core curriculum. They will be provided with opportunities to share their ongoing fellowship work with the wider Northeastern community through lectures, presentations, and exhibitions throughout the academic year. In particular, fellows are invited to engage and collaborate with the diverse faculty body within the School of Architecture, across the College of Arts, Media and Design, and with other colleges and centers across the University. Responsibilities

The teaching responsibilities of the fellowship include three courses taught during the 2024-25 academic year. At least one of the courses will take the form of a research-centric design studio that builds directly on the Fellow’s research project, and provides a way for them to draw connections between their teaching, research, and creative practice. Other courses include design studios, research seminars or representation courses within the School of Architecture’s core curriculum where the Fellow’s unique perspective on the built environment will contribute towards the existing strengths of the department on areas such as sustainable design, urban ecologies, collective housing, public health, and material experimentation.  

As the culmination of the fellowship year, the Fellow will be invited to deliver a lecture as part of the School of Architecture’s public lecture series and/or to prepare an exhibition or other event that showcases the research, teaching, and/or creative work that they conducted while in residence at the school.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a terminal degree (PhD, Master’s, or equivalent) in their proposed area of research by the appointment start date. Applicants with prior studio teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Relationships: Works with the Furman Chemistry Department faculty and staff, undergraduate research students, external research collaborators from chemical industry, funding agency administrators, and the public.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in analytical chemistry OR Master’s degree in chemistry plus 1-year experience with physical or analytical chemistry instrumentation

• Demonstrated understanding of mass spectrometry

• Proficient in office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Demonstration of an ability to present scientific research to a broad audience

Preferred Skills:

• Proficient in mass spectrometry instrumentation, especially ion trapping instruments and/or photoionization

• Experience with LabView and Igor Pro or Origin

• Experience with 3-D design and manufacturing (machining and 3D printing)

• Experience working with and training undergraduate research students

Work Conditions: Work will be preformed under usual office space conditions as well as in a standard research laboratory environment.

Job Overview

The Research Assistant performs activities associated with an NIH grant, in duties that include but are not limited to:

• Collect brain imaging data from human subjects for grant-related studies; contact and schedule families, debrief families.
• Collect neuropsychological data from participants.
• Keep records for all data related activities for the grant.
• Maintain IRB Protocols.
• Maintain database of behavioral data associated with grant studies.

  POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Has primary responsibility for college advising for Program seniors.
• Provides general guidance to the Upward Bound Academic Advisors for all academic advising.
• Manages the residential component of the summer program including the hiring, training and supervision of the summer residential staff. (Is required to be in residence during portions of the residential summer program.)
• Assists with the planning and implementation of all program activities including Saturday Academy, college tours, field trips and other enrichment activities.  
• Serves as a secondary liaison to target schools (working with high school faculty, counselors, and administrators).
• Supervises the Graduate Assistant and has ultimate supervisory responsibility for tutors.
• Is responsible for maintaining contact with and tracking Project alums for federal reporting.  Also, develops services and activities for alums to ensure college success and continued engagement with Upward Bound.  
• Represents the Projects at local and regional professional organizations, and serves on LMU committees.   
• Gathers data for university and federal reports including the Annual Performance Report and grant proposal.  Assists with the writing of grant proposals.
• Enters, manages, and maintains student data in designated database application.
