A rare opportunity has arisen at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a Lead Directorate Lead Nurse for Clinical Research and Development.

The OUH provides expert care for the Thames Valley for common tumour types, and for a wider region for rarer indications. The Oncology and Haematology Directorate covers several core services which are:
• An early phase clinical trials unit
• Late phase Oncology and haematology trials delivery units
• Oncology - including an Oncology ward, teenage and young adult unit and Radiotherapy department
• Haematology - including a Haematology ward, Bone Marrow Transplant service and patient hotel
• Emergency triage service, two chemotherapy day treatment units and an ambulatory unit

The role of lead Nurse will:
• Lead and develop the projects, programmes and audits required to deliver the clinical research service and ensure the systematic provision of research integrated with high-quality and safe patient care.
• Will work closely with matrons and nursing leads of clinical areas to develop new or modify current nursing posts in clinical areas to enable research delivery
• Be specifically responsible for the professional line management of senior research nursing operational team
• Provide expert nursing clinical leadership, work autonomously within professional guidelines and act as an expert practitioner in cancer clinical trials nursing
• Instigate innovative and evidence-based practice within the clinical research teams and the wider directorate
• Exercise senior responsibility and leadership for the systematic governance including annual audits and safety of clinical research activity across the directorate
• Ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional support for all relevant staff working in the service.
• Act as a resource in this specialist field by supervision, teaching and implementation of policy, provision of strategic planning and relevant service development.
• With the research and development senior team, to contribute as an ambassador for the directorate through communication of clinical trial issues, present specialist information across the department, trust and local clinical research network.

The main role of this post is to provide scientific and technical support to all clinical departments that Imaging Physics group supports. The postholder will undertake the full range of duties within the section, assisting in the provision of highly specialised service. They will provide technical support for Quality Assurance programmes for a wide range of diagnostic radiology imaging, ultrasound and phototherapy equipment. They will develop procedures in supporting these services contributing service development and quality improvement.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Clinical Technologist (Healthcare Science Practitioner) within the Imaging Physics and Radiation Protection group. You will work alongside a team of Scientists and Technologists to provide technical and scientific support delivering radiation assurance services across to several NHS Trusts.

Candidates for this post will have a degree in Physical Sciences or in a subject with a significant Physics component and have completed or are about to complete the PTP programme or have equivalent level of knowledge and experience to enable registration with The RCT. Experience of working within Imaging Physics is essential. Candidates with experience in the field which are not yet registered could be appointed at a lower band until registration.

The section is responsible for implementing ‘cradle to grave’ QA programmes on all modalities of radiological equipment, ultrasound, lasers, and UV systems. This includes assistance with equipment specification and selection, acceptance testing and commissioning, establishment of an ongoing QC programme, providing training for radiographers as necessary, and ultimately advising when equipment is no longer suitable for clinical use. The section monitors radiation doses to patients and staff, performs environmental monitoring (including radon) and specifies shielding requirements for x-ray and optical radiation facilities. It also provides radiation dose estimates for research trial submissions and radiation incidents. It leads the Trust’s internal audit programme for regulatory compliance.

An opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent Associate Healthcare Science Practitioner to join the team in the Oxford Genetics Laboratories (OGL), a part of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH). The OGL operates across both the John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals and staff may be required to work at either or both sites. Testing is offered for a range of inherited and acquired diseases in both molecular and cytogenetics, and candidates may be expected to work across the whole range of services offered in the future.

Band 4 Associate Healthcare Science Practitioners undertake a range of practical laboratory work, plus associated administrative and housekeeping tasks under the supervision of experienced Genetic Technologists or Clinical Scientists and following Standard Operating Procedures.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good communication and organisational skills, and the manual dexterity to perform laboratory processes, along with flexibility, efficiency and attention to detail in their work.

Some experience of practical work is essential, though full training will be given.

Associate Healthcare Science Practitioners provide technical, analytical andadministrative duties that support the administrators, technologists and clinical scientists in Specimen reception and the main laboratories of the department. They take personal responsibility for their own work, which is protocol driven, on a daily basis subject to the supervision of the section head.

They participate in defined regular duties on a rotational basis, including monitoring of work areas for health and safety and cleanliness, and are required to undertake all technical duties within a section on a rota basis and rotate through all service delivery/technical sections within the laboratory. They process a wide range of pathological specimens for a broad range of inherited conditions according to standard operating procedures, and are competent in the use of patient databases, state of the art technologies and a limited number of software packages, some of which are complex, for the analysis of data. They perform highly accurate and skilled analysis, which may have unpredictable outcomes and which require periods of concentration.

They are expected to communicate technical, scientific and confidential information to colleagues within their department in electronic, written and verbal forms.

Associate Healthcare Science Practitioners participate in the teaching and training load of the department staff within the limits of their experience.

The Clinical Trials Aseptic Service (CTAS) is responsible for aseptically preparing clinical trial doses for patients to several departments across the Trust and maintaining up to date documentation according to Good Clinical Practise (GCP).

This is an exciting opportunity for a foundation grade or equivalent doctor to gain and develop clinical research skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a large multi-centre randomised controlled trial of the effectiveness of sertraline in preventing depression in adults following a traumatic brain injury (TBI). This is funded at £2.2m by theNational Institute of Health Researchand is the first full scale study of the primary prevention of depression post TBI. They will be based at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, one of the leading clinical research centres in the world. The role will involve recruiting patients from the four Major Trauma Centres in London (Kings College Hospital, St Georges University Hospital, Royal London Hospital and St Marys Hospital). The post holder has the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the study, including subject recruitment and collection of clinical and other data on patients. Training in research methods will be provided, and the post-holder will develop skills in using gold-standard diagnostic and clinical in psychiatry, neurology and general medicine which will provide a strong foundation for future research and clinical practice. They will also gain unique experience in the assessment and management of TBI and depression. The post holder will have the opportunity to undertake clinical sessions if appropriate. These can count towards clinical training for eligible trainees. They will also work closely with other research staff in the project and learn how to foster effective collaborative working relationships with a wide range of expertise from psychiatry, surgery, emergency medicine, intensive care, statisticians and health economists. The post holder will receive training in statistics and be encouraged to lead on manuscript writing and mentoring into academia if they desire this. The successful applicant will contribute to the successful conduct and completion of the research projects. The Gastroenterology research team runs clinical trials for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, together with Gastroenterologists, Industry and the Regional Research Delivery Network. We are looking for a Band 6 research nurse who can work within an established, experienced and supportive research team to recruit patients to our large portfolio of industry trials, monitoring and evaluating care and liaising with senior doctors and the wider IBD specialist team. We exclusively manage a significant number of trials both commercial and academic. Our department comprises a large team of research nurses, practitioners and administrators who have an extensive portfolio of studies across both Hepatology and Gastroenterology research teams and share the facilities to deliver on these. We collaborate closely with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) who monitor recruitment, provide nursing resources and organise meetings for healthcare professionals in the Thames Valley and South Midlands area, which provides a fantastic networking opportunity. 3 Key Areas of Responsibility3.1 Clinical Plan and coordinate your day-to-day work in collaboration with the Senior ResearchNurse management team. The Role of the Clinical Research Nurse | NIHR
