This position is a Principal Investigator at Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center. The scientist develops and implements innovative research on grassland ecosystems, sustainable reconstruction and restoration of plant communities, the plant materials needed to complete those restorations, and the variety of ecosystem services they provide. The geographical emphasis is the Northern Great Plains and Upper Midwest. The objective of the research is to develop new approaches and provide scientific support for natural resource managers to address issues related to grassland restoration and management. Along with conducting new field studies, the scientist will synthesize and analyze existing data to develop decision support tools regarding grassland restoration and management. The scientist must be interested in collaborative research to address applied, conservation-relevant questions.

As a Research Ecologist within the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Design, obtain funding, plan, and execute studies on the ecology, restoration, and management of grassland plants and ecosystems.
• Collaborate with other researchers and managers to conduct quantitative analyses of data from experiments, monitoring, and other sources.
• Disseminate results of investigations by publishing them in peer-reviewed scientific and technical journals.
• Work with resource managers to identify research and monitoring needs and to advance grassland restoration, management, and conservation.
• Develop independently a research program on grassland ecosystems using and combining a range of disciplines, such as: restoration ecology, plant population and community ecology, multi-trophic interactions, quantitative ecology, adaptive management, decision analysis and support, data analytics, and statistics.
• Identify and outline products and prepares scientific papers for publication in professional peer-reviewed journals and make oral presentations at professional meetings.
• Represents NPWRC and the USGS on technical committees focused on complex issues affecting grassland reconstruction, restoration, management, and conservation.
• Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.

• Performs analyses and develops reports on biomedical, scientific, and health policy issues.
• Performs quantitative and qualitative data analysis as well as literature reviews and prepares reports for presentation to leadership, professional and scientific organizations, and journals.
• Maintains awareness of scientific advances and legislative developments regarding the national health status and issues having implications for current and planned health research and research training programs.
• Prepares background materials for senior staff that capture the current state of knowledge in scientific and policy-areas, and provides staff support for special science policy, research program planning, or evaluation.

• Supervises a staff of Market Analysts, Program Analysts, Material/Industrial Engineers, and Economists.
• Places exceptional emphasis on implementing and administering regulations governing the safeguarding of classified information, assuring that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of security regulations.
• Provides leadership and management to a staff of highly technical professionals responsible for coordinating, developing, and maintaining plans for the operation of Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Strategic Materials.
• Analyzes and modifies short-and-long-range plans, programs, and objectives, recommending major changes to ensure the best possible level of support to the customer, stakeholders, and organization.
• Serves as the primary focal point on numerous issues related to the identification of strategic and critical material requirements and major application areas, and development of cost effective and responsive risk mitigation plans.
• Works closely and collaborates with high level management/personnel from DLA, Military Services, Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Staff, other Department of Defense (DoD) and federal entities, US and foreign industry and governments.
• Keeps the Administrator informed on marketing factors such as changes in supply/demand, production, consumption, imports/exports, prices and stock levels and their influence on markets for stockpile materials sales program.

• As an Operations Research Analyst, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
• Serve as a system analyst team member or an individual analyst.
• Plan and organize assignments, analyzing assignments to determine individual problems to be considered.
• Review reports of prior work in the field to determine what available solutions can be used.
• Participate in the statistical design of qualitative assessments tests, development of independent evaluation plans, snd subsequent analyses for assigned projects.

• Conceives, plans, coordinates, conducts, and publishes results of research within the assigned project under the broad area of food safety in vegetable production in CEA and open fields.
• Designs and implements detection systems and strategies to effectively combat and or mitigate potential food borne microbes during vegetable crop production and processing in CEA and open fields
• Works independently and cooperatively with scientists from other disciplines including horticulture, genetics, plant pathology, entomology, agricultural engineering, food quality, and molecular biology
• Develops research efforts with cooperators in the public and private sectors.

• Review format and content requirements for all nursing grant applications submitted by nursing personnel.
• Advise prospective nurse investigators on technical (regulatory and other formal criteria) and procedural requirements for protocol development.
• Ensure research protocols are in compliance with BAMC, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and/or the funding agency's regulations.
• Maintain correspondence with funding agencies to report problems or concerns in accordance with their regulations.
• Assist research assistants who perform a variety of clerical and receptionist duties.
• Design graphics to visually enhance the web site.

• Incumbent independently performs technical duties in support of professional scientists conducting research projects in one or another of the fields of timber, recreation, wildlife, watershed, forest management, or forest fire research.
• A combination of two or more of the following duties are typical of those performed by the incumbent.
• Sets up laboratory equipment for making a variety of scientific measurements and observations of sample materials gathered from experimental field plots.
• Analyzes experimental data gathered in the lab by performing statistical manipulations on the data leading to basic conclusions and inferences, and accurately summarizes data.
• Locates study areas and study plots in the field according to requirements of a study plan or instructions of supervisor.
• Sets up standard equipment for performing any of a variety of field studies; compiles data from field and laboratory observations; analyzes data; and completes and documents data sheets.
• Observes, measures, and records a variety of scientific phenomena that affect forest, range, or watershed conditions.
• Operates scientific or precision instruments, calculating machines, and laboratory apparatus as required.
• Assists in developing and adapting sensing and recording instrumentation and in establishing and calibrating instruments for specific experiments.
• Maintains and makes minor modifications to sensing and recording instruments.
• Uses computers, calculators, recorders and other equipment to assist in compiling and reducing data from laboratory and/or field studies.

• Position entails a variety of technical laboratory analyses evaluating food and water for the presence of harmful bacteria and other microbial agents to include diagnostic tests and technical support work in the fields of microbiology and immunology.
• Assist in the preparation of routine and special media, reagents, stains, and other supplemental items needed for the growth of microbial organisms.
• Participate in method verifications, validations and other investigative projects and laboratory analyses as assigned.
• Operate specialized equipment (microscopes, autoclaves, balances, centrifuges, Vitek, Atlas, Vidas, stomachers, biological safety cabinets, and fingerprinting equipment items etc).
• Maintain stocks of microbiological diagnostic reagents, Petri dishes, pipettes, and consumable supplies in order to sustain an adequate inventory.
• Report unusual and significant results to the Microbiology Supervisor by inputting information into worksheets, logbooks and charts.

About the role
We are now recruiting for a Duty Manager to join the team on a full time (35 hours), 8 month fixed term contract.

As Duty Manager, you will play a key role in upholding our standards and ensuring a fantastic experience for our visitors. Working closely with colleagues across all operational departments, you will ensure a smooth and efficient operations including the enjoyment, security, experience, well-being and Health and Safety of the Museum visitors, colleagues and contractors.

You will act as a floor-based manager delivering routine museum operations, as well as overseeing and coordinating responses to operational problems that arise during public opening hours. You will be able to operate independently when required as the senior manager on-site, ensuring that all KPIs and service standards are met.

This contract is due to start at the beginning of February 2025.
Salary: £26,436 per annum

• Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, and tests electrical circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls and equipment in compliance with the National Electric Code.
• Repairs and maintains the air conditioning systems in office, laboratory and greenhouse buildings.
• Performs preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment including boiler feed pumps, fuel oil pumps, air compressors, generators, boiler fixtures, and combustion fans.

• Monitors and tests the operation of power boiler systems in order to identify malfunctions and potential problems with equipment such as automatic controls, valves, piping, pumps, and related components.
• Performs welding on pipe, structural materials, equipment and machinery with both oxy- acetylene gas and arc welding equipment.
• Performs carpentry tasks in the maintenance of the facilities such as erection of structures, or modifies existing structures. Installs cabinets, locks, door closures, and makes adjustments for proper swing.
• Engages in complete initial installation of changeover of electrical lighting systems, circuits, and essential wiring, including all types of switches, multi-breakers, and panels.
• Directs and evaluates contractor performance of adjustments, replacement and repairs to governors, regulators, switches, fuel cutoff devices, burners, fuel feed and flame safeguard controls, steam gland seals, bearings, and drive gears.
• Develops specifications, sketches, list of materials, and estimates of costs for construction projects, modifications of facilities and equipment.

• Keep restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition.
• Keep a stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work.
• Wash and replace blinds, and wash ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds.
• Clean, disinfect and deodorize lavatories, urinals and toilet bowls.
