The School of Chemistry is seeking a talented scientist to work in the novel and exciting field of super-resolution microscopy to characterise synaptic proteins at the nanoscale.

A successful candidate is likely to have experience with either advanced microscopy methods. Experience with single-molecule fluorescence techniques, programming (ImageJ, python, MATLAB, etc.) would be advantageous. The candidate should have an excellent academic track record commensurate with their career stage and experience.

The Opportunity:

Working with Professors Mathew Horrocks and Seth Grant, you will build on our previously published groundwork on imaging synaptic proteins in the brain. You’ll be based in the Edinburgh Single-Molecule Biophysics Group in the newly built Chemistry Hub in the Institute for Regeneration and Repair, and also work with international collaborators. The combination of academic supervision with milestone-driven research will provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in alga synthetic biology to develop systems for precise nuclear regulation of the plastome.

The Opportunity:

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in alga synthetic/engineering biology is available in the laboratory of Dr Attila Molnar at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to take a lead role in contributing to the development of systems for precise nuclear regulation of the plastome in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. This is a collaborative project funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) involving University College London, University of Cambridge, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the University of Edinburgh.

Tynecastle High School is a six-year comprehensive secondary school which has served west-central Edinburgh with distinction for over 100 years. The school moved to a fantastic new site in January 2010 and has first class educational facilities. The school is thoroughly rooted in its local communities, with learners drawn from Craiglockhart, Dalry, Stenhouse and Balgreen Primary Schools. The school roll is currently around 850. We are currently recruiting a Science Technician to support our Science Teachers in the preparation of science experiments / projects across our year groups, in addition to ordering materials and maintaining the department budget. The candidate should have strong organisational skills and be proactive in working with the department to solve issues. The successful candidate will be able to use their skills, knowledge and experience to manage the storage, preparation and disposal of materials necessary for the delivery of experiments within the full range of teaching delivered by the faculty. The Science curricular area consists of a curricular leader, nine members of staff.

Knowledge of large-scale business data handling such as databases and SQL would be beneficial, as would an understanding of retail banking, financial markets and code development and quality assurance practices such as Git, GitLab and GitHub.

We are looking for a highly-motivated, creative and organised Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the newly‑formed, Wellcome Trust-funded Mirchandani Lab within the Centre for Inflammation Research and Institute for Regeneration & Repair to study the impact of hypoxia on monocyte biology and ontogeny in context of critical illness.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.

This is a 3‑year post, full‑time Postdoctoral Research position to work in the group of Dr. Ananda Mirchandani.
