We have an exciting opportunity to be part of a definitive trial examining the effectiveness of oral nutritional supplement use in care homes.

We seek to appoint a Post Doctoral Research Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary research team for the REFRESH (nutRition intervEntions For malnouRished oldEr adultS in care homes) trial. This is a large NIHR funded randomised controlled trial examining oral nutritional supplements in care homes over four years.

The trial is a multi-university collaboration led by Professor Mary Hickson and Professor Jane Murphy of Bournemouth University. It is supported by the PenCTU and includes collaborators from the University of Exeter (statistics, health economics and community geriatric expertise), University of Coventry (dietetic expertise), University of Southampton (geriatric expertise), as well as care home managers and public representatives.

Your main tasks will be to recruit, set-up and initiate sites (care homes), maintain excellent working relationships with the care homes, manage the three field workers (to help with site initiation), develop online training for care home staff, and manage the day-to-day running of the trial. You will be supported by a Research Assistant and line managed by Professor Hickson.

Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals with a PhD or equivalent within the field of nutrition and dietetics. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, clinical research experience with older adults, and ideally will have worked in the care home sector. You will also have an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to work to tight deadlines and be comfortable and resilient working under pressure. A knowledge of training other professionals and using online educational platforms will be an advantage.

The role will be based at the University of Plymouth, recruiting in Devon & Cornwall, Wessex and the Birmingham area with an opportunity to discuss a hybrid online and in person working pattern. You will be required to travel regularly to Plymouth and/or Bournemouth for meetings, as well as visiting care homes in all the regions listed above that may not be accessible by public transport.

Work within the Department of Healths Research Governance Framework for Health & Social Care and the EU Clinical Trials Directive. 2. Participate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. 3. Support the clinical research team by attending study visits and collecting accurate and relevant study data within both the hospital and community setting. 4. Assist in the clinical care of research participants in accordance with the specifications of each research study. 2. With training and support, screen and identifying patients suitable for clinical research using inclusion and exclusion criteria and utilising NHS records, screening clinics, visiting wards and outpatients and using Trust IT systems and databases. 3. Undertake clinical activities for which training and competency assessment has been completed. Duties may include performing standard clinical observations (Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Respiratory Rate, Temperature, Oxygen Saturations, Height and Weight), venepuncture, urine sampling, spirometry, ECG, blood glucose monitoring and physical assessments. 4. With regard to the above clinical duties, assist in the monitoring of treatment toxicity/side effects by reporting any abnormal values to a senior member of the team. 5. Centrifuge, process track and ship samples in line with protocol requirements including handling dry ice following training. 6. Ensure accurate patient trial documentation, including the use of electronic data capture systems and ensure relevant information is recorded in patients medical notes or Case Report Form in a timely manner. 7. Contribute to the monitoring of clinical standards within the research team. 8. Treat all persons encountered during the course of duties with respect and courtesy and maintain a standard of conduct which best represents the clinical trials team and the Trust. 9. Operational Leadership To act as a visible and credible R&D Director across all components of the Trusts NHS R&D functions including NIHR infrastructure programmes and networks. This will include internal leadership and playing a leading role with external partners, including the University of Plymouth (UoP) and other HEI partners. To oversee robust financial, performance and governance arrangements across the Trusts R&D functions with appropriate mechanisms. To provide radiographic clinical leadership to research activity within the SW region which includes working with the Academy, imaging network colleagues, Trust staff and the private sector to develop, pilot and introduce software and artificial intelligence products into clinical practice. To be responsible for delivering high quality, effective research and investigations in the field of diagnostic imaging and cancer care, particularly in the development of artificial intelligence, providing and presenting reports and writing articles to the highest professional standards as required. To undertake a lead role in planning, co-coordinating, delivering, developing and evaluating artificial intelligence products in clinical services across the SW region, working with diagnostic imaging staff in multiple sites to deliver improved services to all patients including cancer patients. This is an autonomous and self-directing research role with a requirement to work flexibly to deliver the emerging diagnostic imaging research and AI in imaging agenda. This will include travel to other NHS sites across the region, other regional and national venues requiring either appropriate business car insurance or willingness to travel by public transport. To work with the SW universities and Trusts to develop a comprehensive research development and training offering to all diagnostic imaging and related staff, to be delivered by the SWITA. To proactively promote a culture of learning and the adoption of new technologies across the diagnostic imaging workforce in the SW regions imaging departments. To work collaboratively with health and IT leads across the Trusts as appropriate and promote the role of research and artificial intelligence in diagnostic imaging to all stakeholders. The post holder will also develop strong working relationships with each of the network Trusts research, development and innovation (RD&I) departments to promote and encourage engagement with research across the imaging workforce

We are seeking to appoint two Lecturers and an Associate Professor in Computer Science to enhance and strengthen our research capacity in areas complementary to our existing research strengths in artificial intelligence, cyber security, game development and big data. Applicants with expertise in other areas of computer science are also encouraged to apply. You should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, be able to demonstrate a strong track record of producing high-quality research outputs, and, ideally, provide evidence of attracting funding to support your research, particularly for posts above Lecturer level. Relevant groups within the school include the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems, the Centre for Cyber Security, Communications and Network Research, and the Big Data group. You will take an active approach to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary collaborations and will be able to demonstrate external collaborations with the potential for generating impact.

You will be expected to contribute to teaching across our suite of undergraduate and postgraduate computer science programmes and will have experience of providing high quality teaching at these levels. You may be required to take part in internationalisation activities (including overseas delivery opportunities) and other widening participation activities. The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the Structural Heart medical devices division. Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease.

The Program Manager manages programs of small to medium scope, or a significant subsection of a large program. Sr. Managers manage larger programs.  Leads cross-functional teams to develop and execute strategies for new product development and successful commercialization.  Manages matrixed resources to ensure programs meet their agreed upon milestones and deliverables.  Represents the program to the organization, reports core team progress, program recommendations, risks, and resolutions of issues to senior leadership.

What You'll Work On:

• Lead core teams towards program objectives.

• Communicates with all levels of the organization, from operators on the floor to the President in order to represent the objectives, risks, and needs for the program.

• Lead activities across numerous functions to meet the objectives of a given program including scope, budget, and schedule.

• Establish and maintain the program and product Design History File.

• In partnership with the Program Director and fellow core team members,

• Develop comprehensive program plans, which identify objectives, strategy, risks/risk mitigation, budget, effort estimates and schedule for new product development.

• Identifies opportunities for improving overall business performance of the program.

• Develops plans with core members to eliminate and/or mitigate risk.  If risks cannot be mitigated within the core team, determines appropriate means to communicate and elevate issues to appropriate individuals within the organization

• In partnership with the Director, identifies opportunities for improving overall performance of the program.

•  Work closely with functional core team leaders and mentor when necessary.

• Maintains a safe and professional work environment.

• Complies with worldwide medical device regulations including U.S. FDA, company policies and Good Manufacturing Practices.

• Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience required for progressively responsible experience in engineering or related technical discipline.

• 5 years of Project Management experience preferred.

• Minimum 5 years experience in leading projects in a medical device, biomedical or high technology industry.

• Ability to work in a matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results. Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.  Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.  Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable. 

• Preferred: 3 years’ experience directly managing technical staff. Extensive medical device industry experience. Program/Project Management certifications. Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model. 

• Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time, including internationally.
