As part of IME’s Photonics & Sensors Department, the candidate will take lead of the development of various testing capability for advanced photonics, including but not limited to chip-level and wafer-level testing of optical devices and electro-optical devices at high RF frequencies, as well as the testing of electro-optical sub-modules and sub-systems. You will work closely with an excellent multidisciplinary team working on advanced photonics.

Responsibilities:

• Develop various photonics testing capabilities for both chips and wafers, including design and building of measurement setups

IME is leading the effort to establish the industry leading Silicon Carbide R&D program. This program aims to advance 200mm Silicon Carbide technologies in various areas, such as epitaxy, device design, process integration & fabrication, and power module packaging. During the Initiative’s inaugural phase, the Institute will focus on launching new educational and capacity-building activities, conducting landscape analysis of the current state of play especially at the regional level, exploring research collaborations with other planetary health-oriented groups within Singapore and beyond, and implementing policy influencing and advocacy activities – all geared towards positioning the Institute as an emerging thought leader in planetary health in Asia and beyond.

The Research Fellow will be part of the Initiative’s inaugural team and will significantly contribute to the early development of the Institute’s planetary health portfolio. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities which include planning, organising, and conducting research studies, including but not limited to the following:

• Independently carry out the design and execution of research projects.
• Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research.
• Provide support for external grant/protocol development, study design, ethics review application, and other research management activities.
• Contribute to other activities of the Planetary Health Initiative related to education, capacity building, innovation, policy advocacy, etc.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate/medical students and research assistants.
• Perform duties related to the activities of the Planetary Health Initiative (such as advocacy, policy engagement, etc.).

Job Requirements:

• PhD in relevant fields such as public health, health systems, sustainable development, social sciences, among others, AND/OR post-graduate medical degree.
• Minimum with at least 2 years’ of relevant research experience and training. MD/MBBS graduates with a relevant Master’s degree may also be considered.
• Possess advanced knowledge of specific planetary health topics/issues of interest, as well as wide familiarity about the evolving planetary health field, including principles, frameworks, issues, emerging discourse, and policy developments
• Proficiency in research design and execution, preferably in conducting mixed-methods research(both quantitative and qualitative)
• Demonstrated capability of research independence growing progressively.
• Have strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills, which can be demonstrated through research publications in high impact journals, commentaries and blogs, conference presentations, and speaking engagements.
• Possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills which are vital for engagement with partners, collaborators, funders, and other external stakeholders.
• An emerging leader, team player, and project manager who can supervise and mentor junior colleagues; prioritize, multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse workforce; and coordinate multiple projects and activities.
