Main responsibilities:
To support the Science department with their responsibility for the development and education of children at Holmleigh Park High School.
To provide technician support for the Science department.
Prepare and assemble apparatus, equipment and chemicals as required in preparation for practical lessons.

What you’ll be doing
We are growing a Fuel & Reactor Physics team within R&D. As part of this role, you will be pivotal in establishing the team and providing mentorship as part of your management responsibilities.
You will take a leading role in defining and agreeing the technical scope of the forward fuel and reactor physics research programme, as part of the wider Nuclear R&D Roadmap. You will lead and oversee a portfolio of research projects supporting the safe and efficient build, operation and decommissioning of EDF Energy nuclear plants and the development of new nuclear technologies.
You will identify and secure research funding from both internal and external sources through successful stakeholder management and overseeing of and contributing to project scope development and bid submissions.
Who you are
As the Technical Lead, you will be providing strategic and technical leadership to cross-cutting scientific projects, therefore a strong experience in fuel and reactor physics related engineering challenges is essential for this role.

What you’ll be doing
In this role you will deliver R&D projects focusing on water chemistry for our EDF Nuclear plants. Working collaboratively with technical experts from across the varied business units within EDF UK, you will be looking at water based nuclear applications with Pressurised Water Reactors (PWRs) as the primary focus and advanced reactors and fusion applications.
As the Chemistry & Corrosion Research Engineer, you will work closely with colleagues across the wider EDF R&D UK team, EDF UK Nuclear Service and EDF France. You will collaborate with academia and other industrial partners to ensure the latest information and understandings of relevant topics are shared.
You will be supporting the team in building the water chemistry research capability and providing greater understanding of the influence of chemistry on degradation mechanism, contributing to improved equipment reliability for safe and reliable operation of nuclear power plants.
Who you are
We are looking for somebody with a chemistry, corrosion science or engineering background and strong industrial/research experience on chemistry and corrosion related engineering challenges. It would be beneficial if you had experience of working on research projects related to PWR technology.
You will have solid knowledge in Nuclear Plant Chemistry and the ability to work with multiple organisations and stakeholders, both internal and external. You’ll demonstrate excellent organisation and time management with evidence of delivering projects and research work which has made an impact.

The Opportunity
EDF R&D UK is advancing research in the fields of Nuclear, Offshore Wind, Energy Systems, Flexibility & Storage, Zero Emissions Mobility and Smart Digital Technologies. The Nuclear team help to understand the behaviour of the nuclear fuel and the reactor core to ensure continued safety of our nuclear power plants.
We are looking for a talented Research Engineer with skills in either fuel technology or reactor physics to help grow the capability of the team within R&D.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will work on the development of reactor physics methods to support the operating fleet of reactors and future reactor technologies. You will be required to work collaboratively with colleagues across the nuclear R&D team, the wider EDF R&D UK, EDF nuclear services and EDF in France to ensure latest information and understandings of relevant topics are shared. You will also work alongside external stakeholders and research organisations.
As a core member of the R&D Team, you will take responsibility for leading fuel R&D activities supporting the operating fleet of reactors and future reactor technologies, engage with industrial customers to understand their needs and define deliverable objectives and monitor the progress of the R&D research projects.
Who you are
As the Fuel & Reactor Research Engineer, you will have a scientific or engineering background with a good understanding of reactor physics codes (MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC) or fuel technology (e.g. fuel design, fuel integrity, fuel performance modelling). It would be extremely beneficial to have prior experience of the nuclear industry. We are looking for somebody with excellent stakeholder management skills, who can build and maintain strong working relationships and work with multiple stakeholders spanning from scientific partners to business customers. You will be required to effectively communicate complex topics and progress reports to a wide audience of stakeholders; therefore, you will demonstrate a strong interpersonal skillset.

What you’ll be doing
As the Research Engineer, you will support the development of structural integrity assessment methodology for current and future nuclear plants; including Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGRs), Pressurised Water Reactor (PWRs), High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactors (HTGRs), other gen IV type reactors and fusion reactors.
You will ensure different parts of the EDF organisation and external collaborators have up to date information of the state of assessment methods and the delivery of assessment method development to meet internal and external customer needs. You’ll primarily be developing the EDF R5 and R6 assessment procedures which addresses fracture, creep, fatigue and creep-fatigue crack initiation and crack growth mechanisms. You’ll also be involved in the generation and interpretation of the supporting materials data. Wider engagement with ASME and AFCEN design codes will also form an important part of this role.
You will take responsibility for engaging with industrial customers to understand their needs and define the R&D objectives for work to be delivered by the AR&SI team, academic partners, the wider EDF group and/or external organisations. You will be responsible for monitoring the progress towards R&D objectives and effectively communicating this with key stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with academic and industrial partners to help deliver improvement to assessment methodology. You will engage in forums such as R5/R6 panels, ASME working group and AFCEN committees to maximise the value and impact of our R&D activities.
Who you are
We are looking for somebody with a scientific or engineering background, with industrial or academic experience in the use or development of structural integrity assessment methodology or materials data. Experience of the nuclear industry or other ‘high integrity’ industries would be of benefit.
You will have excellent communication skills coupled with strong stakeholder management skills to allow you to effectively communicate complex topics and provide important updates to multiple stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, it would be beneficial to have a strong network in the UK academic and/or industrial landscape.
