SUMMARY
We are currently seeking to add to our pension consulting team. Based in Hong Kong, this role will oversee the delivery of client work and support business development activities. You will take a proactive approach at supporting business development and client deliveries for both existing and prospective clients. As a Senior Pension Consultant, you will provide end-to-end advice to clients on the retirement programs they offer to their employees. You will help clients define strategy, design retirement plans, manage plan finances, meet regulatory requirements and manage risk. This person will be a recognized subject matter expert and a senior individual contributor who manages large-scale projects, coaches team members and solves complex problems. The growth opportunity includes wider intellectual pursuits and profile-building through collaboration with stakeholders, both regionally and internationally within Mercer.
POSITION SCOPE
We will count on you to:
- Be the lead consultant responsible to deliver calculations/ comparative analytics/ survey findings/ pension related advice with close management of team effort with high quality and in a time efficient approach.
- Act as the subject-matter expert in focused retirement topics. Understand appropriate Mercer methods and tools (or recognized equivalent) in coaching junior members in completing assignments.
- Serve as a lead consultant on medium and large clients and/ or second on jumbo clients. Work on cross-geography retirement teams and projects.
- Attend to day-to-day enquiries from clients or internal counterparts in a responsive manner.
- Contribute to research and intellectual property regarding pension systems in Hong Kong, Greater China and Asia, as part of forming Mercer’s views on pension trends. You will be able to apply your findings to arrive at recommendations or observations to add value to our clients.
- Digest and keep up with local regulations that impact on the financial planning industry in relation to investment and retirement matters, including MPF and ORSO ordinances in Hong Kong.
- Participate as a significant team member with respect to sales by driving new business proposals and extending the range of services provided to retirement and other lines of business’ clients as appropriate.
- Interact with internal local and regional team members to contribute to collaborative culture and demonstrate proactive behaviour.
To be successful in this role, there are some basic expectations, but we wish to emphasize that Mercer takes an approach of trusting individuals to shape their role and careers, with an eye on boosting the capabilities of the team and having the freedom to extend boundaries for personal development.
What you need to have:
- 10-12 years of proven experience in the pension consulting / advisory industry, with client-facing responsibilities.
- Experience in analytical coverage and dealing with various pension products and pension structures. Self-starter with ability to seek out and learn more on pension procedures under different regulatory regimes.
- Sound project management skill, in planning ahead the different milestones to achieve and execute in a timely manner with strong commitment on quality.
- Strong analytical and technical skills. Comfortable with conducting comparative analysis, managing large amounts of data in an efficient manner. Ability to articulate complex and technical information in layman and concise ways through written and verbal communication.
- Good command on MS Office applications (MS-Excel, MS-Word, Outlook). Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong language capabilities in English. Cantonese and/ or Mandarin would be an added advantage.
