Work autonomously to manage and coordinate own study portfolio within the designated areas of responsibility, whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure service delivery. Be responsible for the whole patient recruitment process from selection to screening and from randomisation to the scheduling of study visits. Evaluate patient eligibility for the trial, co-ordinating pre-study tests, obtaining results and arranging appropriate appointments according to the research protocol. Ensure patients are fully informed prior to entry into the clinical research programme and play a key role in eliciting informed consent to participate. To provide ongoing advice and information to patients with regards to their participation in clinical research in order to facilitate effective informed consent. Act as a resource and support to patients and their relatives, explaining practical aspects of the trial, assisting and supporting local nursing teams when necessary. Implement and adhere to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ensure that the trial is conducted according to the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006 where appropriate. Coordinate the collection of any biological samples required as part of the clinical trial and ensure safe and appropriate storage of specimens. Monitoring and recording daily freezer and fridge temperatures and reporting any temperature excursions to the Clinical Research Nurse/Manager. Ensure the safe administration of the investigational medicinal product (IMP), have in-depth knowledge of the legal requirements of the individual Trusts clinical trial pharmacovigilance and pharmacovigilance policies. Report any adverse events and reactions in accordance with this policy and the trial protocol. Report any serious adverse events within 24 hours of knowledge of the event, to the sponsors. (For non-commercial studies please use the appropriate SAE forms supplied by the host sites. For KCH & GSTT-sponsored non-commercial studies, please use KHPCTO forms). Maintain clear and accurate source data and other records; ensure a high level of accuracy when transcribing data onto electronic or paper case report forms; create and design database as required for patient and staff records. Assist the PIs in liaising with the KHPCTO and R&I Office relating to submission of the study for regulatory approval and Trust Management approval. Assist in completing submissions to the Research Health Authority (RHA) as required. Perform tasks requiring highly developed clinical skills including phlebotomy, cannulation and keep up to date with current practices for cannulation, phlebotomy, etc. To oversee the routine maintenance and servicing of research equipment. To ensure that all research equipment is calibrated annually and that the calibration certificates are filed in the Equipment File. Ensure that the freezers are maintained in good conditions. Perform essential tasks to prevent build-up of ice around the frame of the freezer doors. Liaise with the Research Nurses regarding administration of trial drugs to your study patients. Be responsible for the accountability of the oral medication used by your study patients.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about research governance, ethics, study management and study delivery with an introduction to research finance. All relevant and mandatory research training will be provided. The successful candidate will be part of a team that manages a portfolio of challenging and interesting clinical trials in various disorders in Paediatric research. The successful candidate will experience tasks such as patient recruitment, study assessments, blood collection and processing, data entry and data management alongside administrative tasks as needed for the clinical trials activities within RDU 9. The post is focused on providing the successful candidate with experience in commercial and non-commercial clinical trials by carrying out research activities, aimed at improving the care and treatment of the paediatric patients. The successful candidate will develop a close working relationship with the inpatient and outpatient support services and be invited to the clinical trial team meetings. The successful candidate will work towards being proficient in managing his/her own research workload effectively and completing trial documentation accurately and in a timely manner. The successful applicant will be working with international neuromuscular expert physiotherapists and physicians within the Clinical Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Team at GOSH to ensure best clinical care and research practice and will furthermore collaborate closely with the ICH Neuromuscular Research Team and the Clinical Research Facility Team. It will involve completion of clinical trial protocols and specific projects, including development and validation of functional scales and other novel outcome measures as well as analysis of the e.g. SMA natural history data. The post-holder will have opportunity to work within the national SMA network to promote teaching and implementation of standard of care in SMA as well as facilitating robust and meaningful data collection. The post holder will have the opportunity to explore their own project/case-load and to provide cross-cover or support to fellow research physiotherapists. There will be opportunity to both attend and present their work at national and international conferences, for which a support will be provided. The post holder will be an active participant in the Physiotherapy Service at GOSH and will collaborate with the clinical Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Team. The post holder must hold a UK recognised Degree or equivalent qualification in physiotherapy and possess current Health & Care Professions Council registration. It is also essential that the postholder has previous experience in Paediatric Physiotherapy and has some knowledge of paediatric neuromuscular conditions. The postholder must have the ability to work as part of both a physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team and have good listening and communication skills across the age range.

The post holder will work closely with the principal investigator, clinical and research teams to co-ordinate and deliver research within the Paediatric Clinical Trials unit, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The post holder will deliver a high standard of clinical care and be able to work as an independent autonomous practitioner. Research specific duties, include: To be responsible for co-ordinating and delivering research trial within the Paediatric Clinical Trials unit, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. Undertake the screening, identification and recruitment of eligible participants to relevant trials according to trial protocol and organisation SOPs. Provide relevant information to prospective participants and taking of informed consent (and assent where appropriate). Deliver a high standard of clinical care, while adhering to research protocol, for all patients eligible for and recruited to clinical trials. Adhere to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Manage the clinical trial documentation including maintenance of site file(s). Provide orthoptic support, where necessary, to clinical trials within Moorfields Clinical Research Facility.
