The post holder will work closely with the principal investigator, clinical and research teams to co-ordinate and deliver research within the Paediatric Clinical Trials unit, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The post holder will deliver a high standard of clinical care and be able to work as an independent autonomous practitioner. Research specific duties, include: To be responsible for co-ordinating and delivering research trial within the Paediatric Clinical Trials unit, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. Undertake the screening, identification and recruitment of eligible participants to relevant trials according to trial protocol and organisation SOPs. Provide relevant information to prospective participants and taking of informed consent (and assent where appropriate). Deliver a high standard of clinical care, while adhering to research protocol, for all patients eligible for and recruited to clinical trials. Adhere to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Manage the clinical trial documentation including maintenance of site file(s). Provide orthoptic support, where necessary, to clinical trials within Moorfields Clinical Research Facility. Act as research contact regarding paediatric clinical trials for both patients and the wider clinical team. Maintain good and open communication with the clinical team to facilitate the identification and recruitment of potentially eligible participants. Maintain accurate and detailed record keeping in format adhering to trial protocol and local SOPs. Present research findings at relevant scientific meetings. Provide orthoptic input to the development of protocols and grant applications. Network with other researchers and build collaboration. Facilitate effective communication or research study information with all relevant research team. Have a high level of computer literacy and basic programming. Support orthoptists and other members of the clinical team in their roles in clinical research studies. Support and encouraging engagement with clinical research. Clinical and Communication Responsibilities Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients and participants come first. Work within relevant regulations and ICH GCP (International Conference on Harmonisation and Good Clinical Practice) ensuring that the clinical trial protocol is adhered to at all times. Lead on a portfolio of trials and coordinate participation. This requires liaising with the clinical team to organise and ensure that trial specific investigations are undertaken according to the protocol, paying particular attention to accurate data collection and dissemination and version control of essential documentation. Devise, implement and evaluate strategies for recruiting participants into clinical studies and identify individuals potentially eligible for research studies. Gain permissions for research contacts. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating an agreed portfolio of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials at Kings College Hospital, Clinical Neuroscience division. Responsibilities will include helping recruit patients to portfolio adopted non-commercial and if required commercial studies, identifying patients through MDTs/screening notes and increasing referrals through participating local hospitals; collecting data; interviewing; supporting and monitoring patients, applying clinical scales to patients in clinic and data entry. The post holder will also recruit patients to observational trials and be involved in follow up and completion of relevant trial specific paperwork which may include all administration, coordination and minute taking for the monthly divisional research governance and feasibility (RGF) meeting.
