The opportunity:
Cenovus is currently looking Senior Staff Engineer, Audit and Investigation Compliance role located in Dublin, Ohio but open for individuals to sit at any US Cenovus site. Reporting to the US Downstream Health and Safety Director, this individual will develop practical consent decree and recommendation language with regulators. Drive strong adherence to requirements by working with senior technical and operational leaders in executing actions. Communicate regularly with external regulators and provide progress updates. Oversee COIMS element 14 process development and implementation. Maintain governance processes on high-level audit and assessment findings with site leadership. Drive data analysis and dashboard capabilities for the site to the next level of maturity.

What you’ll do:
- Serve as US regulatory liaison for active investigations, recommendations, and consent decrees with for major US entity incidents. This includes recommendations and actions from the Chemical Safety Board, OSHA, and EPA
- Serve as internal and 3rd party audit liaison. Schedule and plan key audits from insurance providers, internal audit team, regulatory required audits, and other items of this nature with relevant sites.
- Assist in audit response. Work with site leadership to ensure closure of other high-level audits and assessments and other high-potential actions/investigations. Develop governance cadences and lead update processes with site personnel.
- Matching invoices to transaction system(s) to ensure that all transactions are recorded correctly.
- Develop monitoring process for regulatory updates and requirement changes from trade associations, regulatory agencies, federal and state governments, and evolving industry practices.
- Create a process for aggregating and communicating changes to affected personnel.
- Create processes for maintaining a register of standing operational permits.
- Assist with the assembly and maintenance of the compliance task register.
- Enhance metrics/dashboards for US entities and develop enhanced dashboards for the site in conjunction with corporate team efforts.
- Assemble quarterly performance reviews with site personnel including trends and recommended actions.
- Input quarterly and yearly goals based on trend analysis.
- Incident Investigation training/quality assurance
- High potential investigation leadership
- Assistance with emerging LOD assurance plan activity
- Assistance with incident learning, communications, and follow-up activities for sister facilities
Who you are:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 8+ years of relevant work experience
- Advanced Microsoft Office application
Preferred qualifications:
- Work experience in process engineering, technical safety, operations management, technical management, or process safety engineering in oil and gas or chemicals
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Chemistry, Science or Safety/Environmental from an accredited institution
- Knowledge of US regulations specifically the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Process Safety Management Standard (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA RMP Rule
- Familiarity with MOC, PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, and major accident hazard (MAH) methodologies and good practices.
- Familiarity with other technical topics such as operating procedure, alarm management, safety-critical equipment, Safety instrumented systems, emergency management, and contractor management.
- Ability to work with senior technical and operational leaders and external regulators strongly.
- SAP usage
- Experience in Root Cause Analysis and incident investigation leadership.
