The Opportunity
Salary: £37,336 to £40,221 per annum
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week
Location: County Hall, Chichester and working from home
Interview date: w/c 01 and 08 July
This is an exciting role where, as the Pensions Governance & Compliance Officer, you will provide professional support to maintain the accountability of the County Council in its role as Administering Authority to the West Sussex Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), and as Scheme Manager for the West Sussex Fire & Rescue Pension Scheme.
You will help deliver efficient and effective, customer focused services to provide transparency, auditability and assurance of the governance arrangements.
This will include contributing to the smooth management of the statutory Pensions Committee which is responsible for dealing with key scheme governance issues, the management of the £5.7bn investment portfolio, maintaining the strong employer and funding strategy and ensuring a high quality administration service continues to be provided on behalf of over 90,000 members across over 200 employers.
You will also provide support to the Pension Advisory Board, which supports West Sussex County Council adhere to best practice, comply with legislative requirements and meet all requirements of the Pensions Regulator.

What are we looking for?
- You will have significant political management skills and be able to provide effective guidance to Committee and Board members and officers to deliver the Pension Team's objectives.
- You will be well organised, have a strong attention to detail, be able to successfully plan work and prioritise effectively, deliver service improvements, and review the effectiveness of service delivery.
- You will need to research matters independently and have strong literacy and numeracy skills in order to analyse and interpret information and produce written material.
- Flexibility is important too, as you'll need to respond to the needs of the service and embrace change.
