The organisation are looking for a COS VAT Analyst to join on an ongoing temporary to permanent basis. Pay for the role is £19.93 per hour + holiday. This is a remote role.

• You will report directly to the Tax Accountant in the National Finance Team and assist in key areas such as Contract-Out-Services (COS VAT).
• You will need to acquire an understanding of commercial/non-business/exempt activities from a VAT perspective and apply this knowledge to the monthly transactions coded to COS.
• You will need to quickly decide which transactions require further investigation by contacting other districts.
• Running the necessary reports from finance systems to reconcile transactions which have been coded inside the scope of CIS to produce the monthly contractor, CIS returns to HMRC in a timely manner.
• Ad-hoc finance support to the Tax Accountant

What you'll need to succeed

• A solid background in accounting and a thorough understanding of double entry bookkeeping is essential. Previous experience with producing journals is also a requirement.
• Be part-qualified or currently studying for ACCA/CIMA or fully qualified for AAT.
• Be proficient in using Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel, including being able to create Pivot Tables.
• Previous experience with dealing with VAT such as VAT returns is also desirable.
• Be enthusiastic about learning about new areas of tax.
• Be able to work on own initiative with little guidance.
• Experience in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is preferable but not essential.
• A good level of communication skills includes writing concise and clear emails to various internal stakeholders.

Liaise with site teams and external stakeholders
To ensure accurate and robust compliance to support the Trust’s Estates strategy.
To manage the Trust’s compliance system through effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
To develop systems and processes to optimise the effectiveness of the compliance agenda

This ongoing temp role can be 100% remote. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00. Pay for the role is £15-20 per hour, dependent on experience. Whilst working as a VAT Compliance Analyst, your key responsibilities will be:

• Analysing thousands of lines of data weekly, often using subjective VAT rules, including Contracted Out Services.
• Managing complex processes and assignments.
• Presenting information appropriately to stakeholders.
• Working within the VAT team to support with TEST file analysis, Query workbook resolutions and amendments.
• Responsible for monthly VAT Adjustment Journal uploading and posting the Journals into the ledgers.
• Reviewing and sending client VAT returns within strict deadlines.
• Keeping up to date with current HMRC regulations.

What you'll need to succeed

• Tax knowledge is not essential but is ideally preferable.
• Areas of tax would be: Contracted-out-Services (COS), VAT and import VAT.
• The ideal candidate would ideally need to work on their own initiative with minimal supervision.
• Have a good solid background in accountancy.
• Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA) would also be desirable or fully qualified AAT.
• May be required to assist in areas of Finance and may be required to work on ad-hoc tasks.
